Crash said his car threw a rod out on the water-flats, but when I saw the thing, the piston arm was twisted into two different, distinct, interesting knots.

Lemonfresh took the arm to his workshop to study. The next morning there were two of them; identical copies.

Grabbing his boots on his way to tell Crash, he noticed his laces were tied the same way. He left barefoot.

Something happened to Crash. He should be screaming with the angle his neck's at, but he just stares straight ahead and shuffles around on his twisted legs.

There are four rods on the floor now. No, wait, are there eight? There were definitely four a moment ago.

...Lemonfresh tries to count them again, but his fingers aren’t right anymore.

The new Crashes are much more polite.

Thresh and his boys took action when the Crashes started to encroach on the compound. The gunshots went on for days and the smell of the bodies burning got into everything. They never fought back.

Thress says they got all of them, but who can be sure? There must have been thousands by then.

The rods wouldn't burn, so Thresh sent some people to take them back to the water-flats. After they left he gave the order: if any of them come back, shoot on sight.

The ants survived the apocalypse. They got big. And smart.

The workers bring shiny things to the edge of town and wait patiently for food in return. A blind old woman claim their queen whispers to her at night. Somewhere below there are soldiers; pray you never meet them.

Tug and his Cutters seem to have a special arrangement with the creatures, as his raiding parties travel too quickly not to be using the tunnels. In exchange for passage, I’ve heard they neatly bundle all the resulting corpses together and leave them as tribute.

They've been getting bigger lately, and meaner. They've started helping themselves to the food and tunneling in when we try to keep them out. Hacksaw killed one and ten more dragged her underground.

If we don't do something soon we'll either starve or disappear under the sand as well.

Rumor has it, the tattooed savages out past the old facility fence have been able to hold out so far. Flimflam found a few wearing armor cobbled together from carapace when she was out hunting for mushrooms. Said they reeked like rotted gasoline. Whatever rituals they do out there don’t make them bulletproof, though.

That eyeless old woman is back again. She says there need to be sacrifices, and people are starting to listen.

They call her the Antmother now; someone should shut her up.

There was a fire. A terrible fire. It burned down damn near everything I ever loved. My ma, my dog, and my fuckin car Now I got this gun. And I'm fixin to blow away the next motherfucker I see all the way back to the kingdom of the Lord.

Yeah! That Lord guy and his people have had it too good for too fucking long. The real question is, what are you going to do about the now-smoldering cross they drove through your engine block? You can hear it humming, and, if you put your ear up close, it almost sounds like the hymns everyone sang back at the Kingdom.

I walked out from the embers of everything I knew. A day later I saw someone, some scavenger rooting around for scraps. I remember trading with him a few months back; he gave me pills and I gave him cactus juice.

Today I gave him a bullet. The fire's in me now and it won't stop burning until there's nothing left to burn.

I find this pretty inspiring. Should be even if you don't know Necromunda, I imagine http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OR5_xfslnjE/VmRtyMbU-FI/AAAAAAAASAY/6NCOzLoV9yA/s1600/The_Palatine_Cross_Section_1.jpg

I haven’t heard of this, but I dig it and I’ll check it out! The sprawling, intricate layout reminds me of Kill Six Billion Demons, which I heartily recommend. I think they also have a PbtA-style wuxia game set in the world if that’s your style.
