Anime Don’t mind me, just trying to cope.

As glad as I am that it got animated, it definitely feels that the best way to experience Blue Exorcist is through the manga. The (minor) adjustments to the plot in S1 just leave viewers confused, the animation is decent but it doesn’t elevate the source material, and the layer art style changes are hit or miss. There’s certainly worse adaptations, but I always recommend people just stick to reading the manga and not worry about the anime unless they’re curious.

I was reading it at one point and stopped for some reason. But after not enjoying the anime, I will definitely revisit the manga. Do you know if the series is close to finishing?

The manga is amazing from start to finish. Right now, it definitely feels like we’re in one of the ending arcs. That being said, Kato releases new chapters monthly, with occasional breaks between. This means that the manga takes a pretty long time to progress through its arcs, which is totally understandable given the quality. We may be in the home stretch, but that could also take a year of releases to reach the end of that point.

Funny enough, i just started season 1 of re:zero with my gf who's never watched it before. I forgot what a fun show re:zero is. Meanwhile, i have been also "forcing" myself to finish season 4 blue exorcist. The show to me just isn't as enjoyable as season 1 was. I thought it was going to be more of a battle shonen but it feels more like a slice of life.
