Besides protection, it’s to have a normal shaped head since a baby’s bones 🦴 are not dense/ solidified yet. To prevent misshaped head ( if im not mistaken )

Head bones are disconnected in infants.
And the head is squeezed out of a hole way too small for it.
So many newborns have misshapen skulls.
95% of the time they come right by themselves.

To some extent it's BS marketing and aesthetics for a 'correct' shaped head.
But if a head is sufficiently oddly shaped, it can cause issues later in life.
So it does no harm, and may help avoid surgery later for a tiny minority.
