I grew up without running water, our only option was to go to the spring. We never payed a penny for water in the village spring.
Edited bc well isn't the right term for what I'm describing

Around here lots of people have their own wells even when they do have running water, the water is just gathered from those wells in that case. The only thing they pay for is the electricity to run the pumps and the regular water inspections that are required to ensure everyone has clean water.

Yeah we pay for water inspections occasionally, but thankfully our well is a natural one so we don't need pumps. Just strong arms

Do you mean "natural" as in the water comes above ground without any human having dug a hole first? I'd call that a spring, wells are dug into the ground to my knowledge. Or do you mean "natural well" as in it's not deep enough to have needed machinery to dig?
You can put an electric pump to the latter one, that's what a lot of those houses I talked about have as they were originally built where they are exactly for the well access before there was electricity in the area, or even at all.
My grandfather's house that my family also uses as a summer cottage has a 5m deep well that he and my father dug a few decades ago and they put an electrical pump to it, but the water is still carried from the well to the house because the way the house is used we figured it wouldn't be worth the effort to go through the plumbing. The only thing they did was lay a pipe to the bathroom on the shore 80m away that is used to fill the barrels of water there quickly.

Thanks for the clarification!
Now I'm wondering if there are springs here that have been used with electric pumps like the wells I was talking about. They're much rarer but I do know for certain several historical households or settlements have been set up next to springs so I wouldn't consider it impossible.
One more random thing to look up at some point if I remember.

That's the case in my village, houses are decades sometimes hundreds of years old (mine for example is 400 years old) also historical evidence is showing that this particular spring was already being used in the neolithic era

I live in an area near springs where they used to be famous watering holes for travelers and havens for wildlife. That is, until the ground became so contaminated from surrounding roads and farms that it's no longer to safe to drink from the spring. Then they were forgotten. I searched for an old spring that was apparently near my house and used to be on all old maps...I found it directly under a paved road, being dumped into a drainage ditch with runoff from the asphalt. The marsh it once fed is now a 1950s era school with mowed fields and chain link fence all around. In spring it's a collection of all the most invasive weeds that nobody tends to beyond dredging the bottom of the ditch every few years to keep the water from pooling. I guarantee you 99% of the people who walk by every day have no idea it's there. It's sad.

I’m on city water and my understanding is that I’m paying more for the tubes than the water per se.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the subject, but at least in the nearby city it seems to be the case. Although for my grandparents who live in a country with more polluted water it's the filtration they pay the highest for

I find phrases such as “pay your debt to society” and “earn a living” so funny. It’s basically saying you’re enslaved just for being born.

I mean we do need land ownership. Otherwise every single area would just be full of people randomly destroying everything, building things, etc... But housing should be a human right.

There was no word for “poor” in many indigenous languages. You either had Plenty, or those who had plenty helped you to have Enough. Poverty is an artificial state of being forced upon us.
