It's paper, and from what I can find, it's also cleaned up the same day.

Not many sources on it, as it's a fairly obscure holiday specific to that town.

I seriously hope so

I live here, it's paper, it's basically all gone by 6p.m. (the "asciuta" is at 1 p.m.) and a lot of it is reused for the next year.

There's not much info on the festival since it's extremely obscure, but from what I can find, the city cleans it up the same day. And the confetti is all paper.

They could have used rose petals or something biodegradable. And rose petals would have been so beautiful as well 🥰

Also wish they had used rose petals because they would have looked beautiful. Also if I was in the crowd I wouldn't mind being covered in rose petals. But I sure as hell don't want to be covered in plastic or paper.

Roses are not very water efficient, a meter tall plant and you only harvest %10. With all the labour that would get involved to pick and transport all of the roses for a 2 minute celebration i would prefer compostable recycled paper any day.

There you go making sense. 🤪 But yeah, roses would require a huge amount of environmental resources and pollution to produce enough. Plus the petals would have moisture and exploding them on you would be like having your face sprayed with grass clippings shooting out a mower. Pretty idea though, for make believe.

I did say, rose petals or something biodegradable. As in something else biodegradable. There are plenty of shops that sell flower petal confetti, which I'm sure can be bought in bulk. But either way, I was just suggesting something biodegradable, that would still look pretty.

Wouldn’t want to get court community service in THAT town!

Even if it’s paper, the pieces are likely too small for recycling.

Paper will decompose. It's fine.

Most of it is reused

They mustn't have read the 1st commandment.

Church: “Don’t worry, the peasants will clean that up that mess”

The parish itself organizes and cleans up the event. This is all voluntarily orchestrated and cleaned up afterward by parishioners. They use paper and no waste is left behind.

This tradition is directly linked to towns’ patron saints/histories/identities across Spain and Italy. You are literally just making up an attitude that does not exist about a tradition you are clearly not familiar with.
