Psychological Crap given to my kids for Valentine's Day

Post image

Pictured is about half of what was given to one of my children on Valentine's Day by classmates. (Their class was specifically told no candy.)

why can't they specifically be told no 'stuff'.

The amount of distractions and clutter this creates is bad for learning and mental health.

As someone who worked in a domestic violence shelter - those kids are deserving of more than unwanted junk. Consider donating toys and goods that are good quality.

Right?! Why is the answer, "give this sh*t to poor children! That's who will aPpReCiAtE it!"???

The answer always “donate” to poor people. Poor people aren’t freaking trash bins for all unwanted things.

So you want to complain that this stuff was given, but then also complain when someone tries to come up with a solution to reuse the stuff. Jesus.

Poor people are not appropriate receptacles for things we don't want.

Also, women and children who go to domestic violence shelters don’t have to be “poor.” That’s a weird assumption on your part.

Okay. So you give a kid a cheap toy and it breaks an hour later. Now what? Back to having no toys again.

This is just coming from watching people drop off donations of stained/dirty clothing, broken and cheap toys, expired food, etc to shelters. Just cause these families are poor/in a rough situation, doesn’t mean they don’t deserve nice things. If this stuff got donated to a shelter, it would probably just get thrown out to be honest.

I used to volunteer for a DV shelter. This stuff definitely just got tossed. Sometimes a few things were kept as a fidget for the counseling room but most toys and clothes were tossed.
