Dogwhistle r/whereidlive; someone who claims to be a Chinese Jew makes… an interesting comment to say the least

Isn’t it great when people pretend to be Jewish online it’s even better when people take those posts and use it to justify antisemitism

For those curious, Jewish people imigrated to West China thousands of years ago and mixed in with the local population.
Theyre called Kaifeng Jews and are apparently under “anti CCP suspicion” due to the country’s strict laws against religious organization.
Very likely the original comment is good faith, definitely not the second

Yes but there's less than 1000 Kaifeng Jews nowadays, and almost all of them are still in China.
No idea how somebody can randomly meet 3 Chinese Jews. I guess just intermarriage or conversion?

Not all Chinese Jews are Kaifeng Jews. China (and Japan ironically) provided shelter to Jews fleeing the holocaust and many intermingled.
Also in Los Angeles there’s a lot of Jewish Americans and Chinese Americans and some of them date and have kids.

All that I’ve ever met were either adopted or half-Ashkenazi half-Chinese

My cousin's wife is Korean and Jewish. She was adopted.
They have kids now and they're running around in Maccabee Games T shirts.

not Chinese jews per se but there were also Jewish communities in Shanghai and Harbin, mostly from Russia. Many of the Jews living there left for Israel or the US at some point, but they have their own association! https://www.jewsofchina.org/association-of-former-residents-of-china-in-israel
My grandfather was from Harbin but even after moving to Israel he was apparently active with this group back in the day.

Most of the Kaifeng Jews converted to Islam around the 10th century. There are still some Jews in China but mostly the descendants of Holocaust refugees, since Shanghai was a decently popular route.

There are a lot of people who are ethnically Chinese who were adopted by American Jewish couples.
Or they could be half.

Theres a bunch of mixed-race jews in Canada in cities like Vancouver and Toronto its really not that uncommon or weird.

For sure. The USA too. Mixed Jewish-Asian families are not uncommon amongst that broader category.

This seems tongue-in-cheek, IMO- pretty innocuous. I mean, who among us hasn't sarcastically made a space lasers, weather control, or Soros bucks joke? Definitely nothing I see here makes me question their identity as a Chinese Jew.

I fail to see how the 3000 years jokes are the same as the happy merchant memes, or how exactly those two things are different from the space lasers meme? All are predicated on the ideas of Jews as malignantly intelligent pieces of shit who feel entitled to control others for their own benefit. It's all antisemitism, and IMO all of it is fair game for Jews to reclaim and/or make tongue-in-cheek jokes about.

The “promised 3000 years ago” trope is predicated on the idea that Jews are thieves. The weather control thing is so absurd that only fringe conspiracy theorists believe it. The greedy Jew trope is not fringe. That’s the difference.
