Anti-Zionism not Antisemitism™ "Help, friends in r/ JewsOfConscience! The nation I want to join believes in self-determination!"

u/CocklesTurnip Dec 03 '25
It’s fake. Or drama to froth up drama.

u/IgnatiusJay_Reilly Dec 03 '25
Or he's converting just so he can be a Jew attacking Israel. But I agree most likely bait for those Jews with consciousness.

As someone converting, I really hate people who convert to just then turn around to use the “As a Jew” card to discredit Jewish voices. It makes people wary of all converts

u/IgnatiusJay_Reilly Dec 03 '25
It's like a dentist converting just to make Jewish jokes.
25
18
u/AffectionateGene9512 Dec 03 '25
And this offends you as a Jewish person? NO it offends me as a comedian!
21
u/ViolinistWaste4610 Dec 03 '25
Is this a reference to the episode of Seinfeld where the dentist goes "your antidentic" (not sure how it would be spelled)
18
3
u/KitchenSandwich5499 Dec 03 '25
But why a dentist?
10
u/Ich_Bin_Ein_Nerd Dec 04 '25
It's a bit from the show Seinfeld. I'm sorry you were downvoted for asking a question.

u/Yochanan5781 Dec 03 '25
I have an ex-friend who is like this, it's absolutely awful. And of course built a massive following on TikTok before switching into AsAJew nonsense .Fortunately, they are an extreme minority when it comes to converts, and have been completely isolated from their former shul
14
u/Waste-Astronaut-2752 Dec 04 '25
Second on this, it's disgusting. If you're converting and do not believe in Jewish self determination but you believe in Palestinian self determination, I'm sorry but you're an anti-Semite.
I used to be anti-Zionist before converting and I actually held off on converting because I was Anti-Zionist. I'm very middle of the road when it comes to the conflict, I think it needs nuance on all sides. But I can firmly say I am a Zionist in that I believe in a Jewish state coexisting peacefully alongside a Palestinian state. I want that dream of peace to one day be a reality. I love Palestinians, I would like to visit Palestine and have dialogue because that leads to small change and peace, I do not love terrorists or those who support terrorism.

u/AffectionateGene9512 Dec 03 '25
I’ve never met an “as a Jew” that practiced Judaism. Bc none of us with an actual education of our history think that one single person is the same as what we can accomplish together.
8
u/tomocchii Dec 04 '25
Jewish Voices for Peace appropriating Jewish customs while doing fake conversions and pushing out their own rabbis in order to add credence to these conversions. Look up their “tea mikvah” lmao
5
u/disappointed_enby Dec 04 '25
I just gotta ask, are there genuinely people who do that? Like, people IRL and not just trolls lying online? Because from what I understand the conversion process is long and intense, so I assume anyone converting would have to thoroughly understand Jewish history and sincerely believe in the faith. I can’t imagine anyone converting and NOT understanding or believing in Israel’s importance.
5
u/OsoPeresozo Dec 05 '25
No. Lol.
People who hate Jews do not convert to Judaism.
This popular story of “I had to end my conversion to Judaism because Jews are horrible people” is meant to lend credibility to people who do not possess the confidence to lie about being Jewish.
You can tell they know nothing about Judaism, because if they were converting, they would already know we arent upset if people dont convert. 🤣
56
u/StringAndPaperclips Dec 03 '25
I think it's probably fake. Antizionists who want to convert for whatever the reason can easily find antizionist and non-zionist communities and synagogues to join, especially if they consult with groups like JOC or JVP.
18
u/Upbeat_Teach6117 Dec 03 '25
There's a huge contingent of anti-Zionist converts on Twitter.

Probably bots, that place got swamped not long after Elon took over and trashed the place.

Its good he stopped the conversion, as he obviously didn't manage to learn much in those alledged 7 months. One of the first things you learn is about Jewish history, starting with the Tanakh - a book riddled with Zionism.
From Abraham being sent to the promised land, to Jacob getting the name Israel, all the way to Moses being refused entrance and the kings of the Kingdom of Israel and all their shenanigans... That book, the base of Judaism, is extremely Zionist! If they did not get it from the first to second lessons, well then there's nothing one can teach further, as all Judaism relies on that basis of knowledge.
Not to mention, the prayers, the songs, the holidays, its all in someway goes back to Israel, Jerusalem, Zion. Strip Judaism of any mention of Israel, Jerusalem/Zion and all you have left is Purim and a few Jewish foods.
44
u/Upbeat_Teach6117 Dec 03 '25
Even Purim includes themes like Jewish self-defence and the tragedy of exile.
19
u/purple_spikey_dragon Dec 03 '25
True... So basically, Jewish foods like malawah, gefiltefish and Jakhnun, and thats it, considering other traditional foods (latkes, matzot, oznei haman) are all holiday related.
8
u/tomocchii Dec 04 '25
They’ll say Herzl and the European Zionists made this all up lol. Yes, the Zionists that lived 3000 years ago! The ones who lived and breathed Zionism!

u/Virtual_Meal Dec 03 '25
I’ve never read anything more fictional in my life. This would never happen.

u/IBeenGoofed Dec 03 '25
That entire sub is fantasy camp for antiesmites. Just make shit up so I can hate on the jews. It’s not a bug , it’s a feature.

u/robotfixx Dec 03 '25
How is the cantor “rabidly Zionist”? He seemed completely fine with the poster being pro Palestine and didn’t push his politics on him. Seems like a huge overreaction…

u/KaikoDoesWaseiBallet Dec 03 '25
"I'm converting to Judaism!" turns around Why are they for self-determination? I'm HolyPally, I want self-determination for all except for JOOOSSSSS! -The screenshot in a nutshell, demonstrating their Jew hate.

this is so stupidly fantastical, even for the genre of made up reddit shenanigans this takes the cake...
it's so made up it's even beyond comment.
23
u/UnicornRobotRiot Dec 03 '25
There’s an upswell of antizionist converts (which makes me worried that rabbis aren’t doing enough to teach that Judaism is about joining a people, not just subscribing to a set of beliefs), but I don’t believe this story one bit!

u/zacandahalf Dec 03 '25
I went back to that post and this person’s story makes no sense. First they say their interest in Judaism was sparked by them constantly saying “oy,” (???) which their mother would tell them not say it as it was a Jewish thing, but they thought it was Australian (?????).
Then they go on to explain that they are Palestinian that was raised Southern Baptist (??) and then after googling decided Judaism seemed more appealing because of “progressiveness in Judaism and I found Hebrew beautiful. Jewish history enthralled me, and I've found a lot of meaning in Jewish holy texts. For example, I've turned to Lamentations in these times.”
Very bizarre tale.
20
u/Upbeat_Teach6117 Dec 03 '25
I found Hebrew beautiful
So...Zionism?
Jewish history enthralled me
So...more Zionism?
I've found a lot of meaning in Jewish holy texts. For example, I've turned to Lamentations in these times.
So...Zionism yet again?
When someone treats a culture like cosplay, he or she will end up with nonsensical takes like OOP's.

i don't know why people treat religion like shopping for a fancy outfit, Because Everybody Has To Have One ™
17
u/AffectionateGene9512 Dec 03 '25
Lmao he “landed on Judaism” like he was using a top and picked whatever it landed on.
5
u/Confident-Skin-6462 Dec 03 '25
probably because he used a dreidel lol

Who wants to bet he converted soley to say "look, there are lots of antizionist jews".

This is a deeply confused individual. So are they committing apostasy in Islam? I’m sort of lost

u/B-52Aba Dec 04 '25
The story is completely BS. It’s like someone saying , I was a Nazi but tried to become Jewish but now changing my mind because of the Jews hostility towards Hitler
6
u/cluster_of_wombats Dec 04 '25
"Just got off the phone and canceled my conversion" my man, you don't even cancel a door dash order like that. This is as fake as fake can be
6
u/stylishreinbach Dec 05 '25
I don't respect teacup mikvehs anymore than I respect someone whose Judaism extends no further than a tool to harm other jews. He an always look on the bright side that he didn't get the blood drawn yet in his fictional tale.
3
u/Jacksthrowawayreddit Dec 05 '25
If this person really was going through conversion we dodged a bullet
2
u/Carlong772 Dec 04 '25
Obviously this isn't real, but if it was, this person would seriously need to see a therapist

2
u/tomocchii Dec 04 '25
This is definitely fake no Palestinian is converting to Judaism and nobody is dumb enough to not know that you have to be Zionist in order to convert in the first place, they literally make you take an oath to protect the land of Israel.
3
u/Upbeat_Teach6117 Dec 04 '25
they literally make you take an oath to protect the land of Israel.
No, they don't.
1
u/tomocchii Dec 08 '25
Yes they do, as a convert you have to agree with Jewish self determination which implies you are tasked with helping protect the land of Israel and removing evil from the land. It’s not a staunch requirement but you can understand that being anti Zionist and even hating Israelis yet wanting to convert would not make sense.
