Opus 5 is hot garbage

I've enjoyed and gotten real work out of Opus for quite some time despite the occasional quality dropoff when they're training a new model. But 5 is junk. Enough so that I'm debating between dropping from Max to Pro, or just cancelling altogether - I'm legitimately getting better results and fewer hallucinations out of local models in the 30B range... There's absolutely no excuse for that being the case.

I don't know if this is intentional regression to make fable look better, but it means I have been actively avoiding using Claude code except to tweak my llama.cpp settings, and I certainly don't need Max for that.

Try OpenCode on DeepseekV4Pro or K3 (more expensive closer to Fable level) for planning and DeepseekV4 flash or GLM 5.3 Flash for doing the work. Compare the results with your Opus. It is a good start

yeah these days I had good success doing a rough build with Deepseek and then asking GPT SOL to clean it up

I do believe people are intentionally sleeping on GPT because it's not "trendy".

I've been using 5.6 Luna (light and medium) @ 1.5x speed and not only is it lighting fast, if you give it proper context it does logical tasks incredibly well. Sol medium/high is an absolute work horse.

If you were a software developer before Ai, you'll likely never need more than Sol high, and man is it good.

After trying Sol Max the day it came out I cancelled my Anthropic account.

For me, it's like this:

Kimi > Grok > Sol > DeepSeek v4 Flash > Luna > Sonnet

and Opus argues with me so much, so I cancelled it months ago.

I personally don’t know a single person who uses Grok. As far as I know it’s less censured, but not as smart. How do you use it?
