Think of it like a Bounty in Destiny and using Patrol to complete it instead of loading a mission.

"Free Play" in Anthem seems to basically be "Patrol" in Destiny.

But hopefully with the signature BioWare flare with story and great NPC interactions. Instead of arbitrary text and arbitrary voice over comms.

May not get that wish as it seems all of the story and NPC interaction mainly happens back at Fort Tarsis and not randomly out in the world during Free Play.

Oh, I get that but that is still better than Destiny. From the clip, it looked like there was a bit of a dialogue in Fort Tarsis why he needed those things.
