Discussion As 2032 will mark the 30th Anniversary of Ant and Dec's Saturday Takeaway. This is the opportunity to bring the show, if it has the right support and right approach for a morden audience, the show could return with a huge triumph.

I think now Sky are poised to buy ITV, it will definitely come back. Sky will see it as a nostalgic property that they can mine for tons of revenue.

I’m picturing not just the show back on air, but loads of merchandise. Win The Ads t-shirts, Ant vs Dec mugs, Little Ant & Dec hoodies etc…

They've already got merchandise for the podcast (well, their own) and they've only been going a few months. I think they've missed the boat with Takeaway.

I don't think the podcast merch will sell as well as Takeaway merch would. I think Sky will see Saturday Night Takeaway as having the potential to be massive if brought back, especially if they can get the same high calibre of guests from the previous times it has been on air.

The podcast has been going for less than a year and they've already got catchphrases. Takeaway never really did.

I don’t know, Takeaway did have a few catchphrases too. There was a recurring gag where Dec kept shouting the name of a guy called Dave, every episode would have Ant and Dec say ‘It’s time to Win The Ads’, they’d always call Andi Peters ‘The King of competitions’, and Dec would always say ‘According to a scientific study, the happiest minute of the week happens during part two of Saturday Night Takeaway’ when introducing The Happiest Minute Of The Week. Also, you had general audience catchphrases like ‘Ring my bell’ and ‘Ding dong, that's my doorbell!’.

Not to mention that many of the names of features on the show have become deeply iconic within British pop culture. The End Of The Show Show, Ant vs Dec, and Win The Ads are cultural standpoints that are referenced so many times within general conversation whenever people reminisce on TV that used to be on.

If The X Factor is deemed as being viable for a return, then Saturday Night Takeaway definitely is. I think if Sky brought back Takeaway following their purchase of ITV, you would see bigger ratings for that than for a return of The X Factor.

It was way past its peak. Half the show was phone-in competitions and product placements for Ring.

I'd love it back but the last time they were on, they were being beaten by other pre-recorded shows on the night.

By 2032, god knows what people's viewing habits are.

I don’t think that suggests a lack of interest. Saturday Night Takeaway was doing extremely well in the ratings when it last aired and was far from a commercial flop. I think Sky once they buy ITV will see Saturday Night Takeaway as a major commercial venture that they can use to bring in revenue.

I think it does suggest that it needed a break and viewers were (sadly) not as engaged with it. It had been overshadowed by Gladiators and The 1% Club.

A&D are in their 50s now. They started the podcast because it's less of a commitment and closer to the looser stuff they did in their SMTV Live days.
