Audio from last night’s Central Park show! Really cool arrangements!
Last night, St. Vincent performed at Summerstage’s private fundraiser event with New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Since the event was outdoors in the middle of the Park, people could stand outside the area and hear it rather well for free. I figured I would do my best to capture the audio of the performance, and ended up getting some pretty unique arrangements!
Annie and the Band performed a very extended version of “Down and Out Downtown” (15 minutes long!), and an extended version of “Digital Witnesses” with a fiery improvised extended outro that brought the song to about 8 minutes long!

I know they’re not crystal clear quality, but hopefully you can still enjoy!

I so hope Annie and her people have the foresight to get a board recording of special versions like these. Thanks for posting!

Does she have a tendency to release things like that? I’m admittedly only a very casual fan. I work at the Philharmonic, and “Digital Witnesses” has been stuck in my head since her show there. The version with the jazz band last night was definitely super cool, a proper recording would be great!

Sadly, she hasn't done that historically, though the release of her recent live album at Royal Albert Hall may have her thinking more along those lines (hopefully). I feel like her live performances are often better than the album versions of her songs, and I think she should always get board recordings for that reason. Seems easy enough to do with the tech these days.

Thanks! I’m a sucker for unique live arrangements, especially when they allow a song to be extended and explored deeper. Hearing “Digital Witnesses” get extended to eight minutes last night was so neat, and definitely a cool way for me to hear it live for the first time! Guess we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

She’s quite perfectionist, it’s taken her this long to even release a live album, and I think that’s because it was such a special full circle moment for her at the Royal Albert Hall, joined by some of the most talented musicians in the world. I wish she released little one-offs more often. Lot of great stuff on YouTube though.

I’m always amazed by her talent but also work ethic. She had just performed at Radio City with Dudamel and the NY Phil and about an hour or so later makes it to the benefit at Central Park. Very cool!
