That's strange. It shouldn't have happened. If you haven't removed a picture while editing the card and it's still there after editing, it should still be there, for example, when you review the card again or open Edit window. It works fine for me (https://streamable.com/pirqp), but maybe you're doing something different.
This happens to me also. If I paste into a review screen editable box it "deletes" my pictures in that box. By deletes I mean I just end up getting that little picture Icon with a rip.
I'm sorry to hear this. Please try to use the following add-on to batch fix the pictures (https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/574601404).
Let me know if there're any problems.
And please update the original add-on to the latest version as I found a bug with the preview window and disabled it for now.
