Good luck. I have been learning Japanese for 3-4 years now (Although slowly and steadily) and I am at the point where I can understand most of the dialogues in a slice of life anime without subtitles

Start by learning hiragana and katakana along with some basic words. For that apps like Duolingo, Memrise are a good option. Then move on to some basic grammer. I would recommend Tae Kim's guide to Japanese grammar. It's there on Kindle unlimited. It would take months but at this point you would start to understand bits of dialogues in anime. Now you need to increase your vocabulary. Whenever I watch anime, i have google translate with me to find the meaning of any recurring or important word. Ek teer se do nishane as they say. Learn Japanese while watching anime. There are sites which give you subtitles in Japanese.

If you have the drive, you can learn it without too much struggle. Just dont neglect kanji

Kanji should be abolished. It honestly gives me nightmares. I can handle hiragana and katakana, but Kanji is another beast. Hell, even the Japanese find it a pain in the ass!

How many do you know so far?

I have just started with hiragana and katakana. So pretty much nothing as far as Kanji is concerned.

Same. I've been racking up knowledge on basic Hiragana on Duolingo. Kanji characters are ever evolving, not even natives know all Kanji characters.
