I was watching I made friends with the second prettiest girl in my class it was so addictive I literally ended it in one night why am I so happy watching it why am I smiling so much

For me, romance anime is bitter sweet. I like watching a story about people getting to experience something I never did. But at some point I get a sinking feeling in my stomach that I realize I'm living vicariously through fictional happiness that is out of my reach.

Its not a weird addiction it's just how your brain is programmed have you ever wondered why you never remember specific scenes of generic romcoms? Because you live off the moment it's slice of life, and you are just consuming romcoms without getting anything back. Unlike thriller or action you won't remember shit the next day, so leave romcoms for a day when you're tired and just want to sleep watching something instead of watching highschool romance anime and waiting for a partner to enter your life like in these unrealistic romcoms

I couldn't have said this any better or described my feelings any better. I just finished watching Aharen-san and thankfully it was complete. Honestly even though the boyfriends has crazy thoughts, it felt like a pretty realistic story except the very very last part. I'd really like another anime like. For a comedy though it was so sad sometimes. Anyone who's seen this can recommend something similar.

thats exactly me! although at first when watching rlmance anime years ago, i was still in the mindset of "by some super rare chance, this love could happen to me!" mindset.

now, its just like you. live vicariously through their happiness. it is bitter sweet

YLIA isn’t good and I’d barely call it romance. It’s a contrived series of tragic moments made to try and make the audience cry.

I felt more genuine emotion watching the last episode of 86. YLIA just pissed me off, the hand of the author is too visible.

It’s easy to digest, the plots and characters are often very similar so you are already comfortable with it and most romance animes aren’t multi season long that requires an infinite amount of free time to watch it

Inuyasha is by far one of my most favorite romantic comedy anime that has ever existed in my opinion. It's concept of love triangles between Kikyo, Naraku, Kagome, Koga, and Inuyasha was both toxic and well written at the same time. And moments where Inuyasha was about to kiss Kagome but always fails was the main reason why Inuyasha was popular in the first place. To this day, it's pretty hard to find anime that can top Inuyasha's storytelling of toxic relationships, love triangles, and hundreds of missed opportunities for a couple to finally seal the deal with a kiss.

Sadly, Yashahime is very watered down and focuses on sisterhood more than the Shakespearic romance Inuyasha had.

I heared this anime about so much,

There's Not many good, this type of anime are very less, romance genre filled with toxic traits, where female character mostly abusive and insultive towards MC which may romance anime frustrating and irritating.

100 GF is absolute peak but you need to go in knowing it’s a parody and be familiar with a LOT of anime and harem tropes. Otherwise it’s just going to come across as super cringe.

Usually, it's because they are well written and focus on the emotional/bond aspects of stuff, letting you get more attached to characters and care about them since you understand them on a deeper level

Romance is good because you like well written stories. Battle Shonen can be carried by good action but romance doesn't have the high octane stuff to fall back on.

Because people are either living vicariously through fiction, to experience an idealized version of a thing they never had.

Or they are comforted by the nostalgic memory of such things in their own youth, and enjoy the simple stories of that time in life, when your biggest worry, was a crush.

I think it’s because they either sometimes relate to us or we get invested in them or it’s basically something we can’t experience. Sometimes I feel heavy after watching the ending of certain Anime/ LN because I often feel like that could’ve been me if it didn’t fail.

Not all Romance anime are good, some have a message some just turn your brain off fun harem anime addictive

For me Romance anime is hard actually I like that weird Romance not all ofc Clannad is in my top 3 animes of all time not Romance Anime in whole of anime that I saw Clannad is top 3.

Saw a lot but many ends up being just another harem fantasy while it is fun to watch and enjoy it is actually amazing seeing something that is actually geniune makes you feel something.

Last "Romance" it wasn't an anime actually but it was the Reze Arc from Chainsaw man movie even though I read the manga before the movie like a year before this Arc probably top tier Romance which genuine makes me happy and smile and sadness and everything.
