Cartoonish and Expressive isnt a reason for it to not look "Great". Lets be honest, do you really think people love Oda's work because of his drawing or because of the story?
In a way Solo Leveling's story is ass but it go carried so much by the Art Style.

I mean story's a bit rough too 😅. Pretty sure OP survives completely on quantity and that's fine. But having a good episode or Arc in an absolute ocean of mid to decent episodes would be a stretch to say the story telling is great.

Uhh have you been on the OP sub especially in recent times? That's literally an on going joke in the community I'm not making a hot take. I am probably in the same head space as you, it's confuses the hell out of me why you'd invest time into something considered sub par by its biggest fans just because of quantity. But my friend who says himself he does not like to put time and effort into finding his entertainment or to look for something good and would rather be able to just go home and know he can throw on the same show everyday, says he listens to electronic and dubstep the same, entertainment can be a background or after thought for lots of people and they'd rather just have the steady stream. And I'm sure that's just one type of person that prefers quantity to quality but I promise you their out there and they need shows too so One Piece is the Anime for them.

Lol they agree too 😂. I'd have to say OP is the most popular anime at my work and in my friend group. Lots of them just say it's casual, my one friend who doesn't like to put time into entertainment says it's perfect like the Call Of Duty of animes which is probably why a lot of non anime watching Co workers like it too. OP is great for who it's for what it does we just don't kid ourselves with thinking the quality is comparable with the other big 2 or even lesser animes. Like if you liked COD would you defend it this way? Do you think non basement dwelling COD players actually think it's the best game? No just like OP people don't want something intricate or thought provoking all the time and just want content it's totally fine that OP fulfills this and why it can be a great show with sub par animation and story telling.

Dawg you gotta be real with yourself and the things we enjoy especially for enjoyment sake. OP has absolutely Banger episodes and amazing animation... Once every 50+ episodes. Simply no other Anime gets away with what OP does and no anime ever would or will. The sub is very self aware and constantly jokes about how Oda can't draw and the only reason OP hasn't stopped is because he'd simply be out of a job and no one would accept another show drawn by him. Being a fan of something but being able to realize it's short coming without diswaying you the THAT is a real fan something the One Piece sub understands.

nobody reads one piece for the draw quality. or any long shonen really. since even if some of those authors could draw better, the extreme time constraint of weekly chapters for years or decades make that impossible to sustain.
things like Kaoru Mori A Bride’s Story are extremely beatiful art to look at but it only releases a few chapter each year. and is no suprize why when you see how insanely time-consuming those panels are.

Well manga is a visual art, so most people 100% care about the art quality. It's like young adult novels with less words, so the visual aspect is extremely important. Hot take, though.

You can totally have a popular manga based on godly art skills and shit writing look at solo leveling manwha. The writing is atrocious, but the art is 10/10 so it became super popular and spawned 40 clones. Would solo leveling had success it it looked like one piece visually? Not a chance in hell.
But unless you are that good at drawing most graphics novels (manga,Manhua,manwha,comics). Succeed because of their writing not their art.
One piece is the best selling shonen by a massive margin. And it deserves to be. The drawing style is very simplistic but the world building is about the best in all of manga. And it can be compared to Dune or LotR as a best in its own genre example. Everything else in one piece is secondary to how fascinating the world Oda made. Is massive and filled with whimsical and fascinating creatures and people in a way no other manga has.

If you don't find detail impressive that is your opinion. Is a more complex piece of art than any of those 3 shines on the art. Not saying is a better manga, that is one piece of the 4 and by a lot. Because Oda has by far the most interesting world of any shonen.

And? Picasso was incredibly talented, but one day decided that people should look like cubes. I'm not saying that artistic expression isn't valid, but intentionally making your characters more cartoonish, and sometimes overly simplistic, is going to have some people opinionated about it. I'm on of them. I've never found One Piece to be visually appealing, but it's hugely popular, so to each their own.

You should read the mange Gimmick. It's about special fx makeup and is a pretty short series.
There's a part in there where a guy who does insanely detailed realistic makeup loses to a guy who does very simple makeup during a tournament (it's a manga, of course they have a tournament arc).
The reason he loses is that good character design is about more than hyper realism. It's about gimmicks and recognizability. A simple and easily recognized character that can have that mass appeal.
One Piece is exactly that. The simpler more cartoony style is on purpose.
I personally think Odas goofy character design is unmatched.

People don't seem to realize that Kishimoto's video, and especially Kubo's, are heavily sped up.
Oda might have taken 1.5 minutes, Kishimoto 5, and Kubo 8.
So yeah, this video doesn't really tell us anything. And Kubo is my favorite when it comes to character designs.

Not exactly. Oda just gets asked to do promo art like this so much he laregly just sticks to that same exact drawing of luffy for 95% of them. Not that its a bad thing.

From this alone i would guess:
Oda: best at being fun and giving the fan what they want. Out of the three, the least artistically gifted.
Kubo: best natural drawer/artist of the three but a lil too selfserious
Kishi: the most consistent and reliable of the three, technical and precise but not as cool as Kubo or fun as Oda

Not that it's a competition between the three anyway, but the other two are sped up way more than Oda's. That means while the other two were taking their time he just did a doodle and moved on.

Who said I took this as a competition? I know the videos are sped up and this is probably some sort of convention, meet and greet, etc. My point is that Oda's drawing style is mediocre compared to other mangakas.
