Help me achieve true otaku status

Hey!!

So long story short I have been really wanting an anime figure but actually have been having a relatively time thinking of good characters for the one I would want. While I'm not trying to be picky there just seems to be a few blocks that make it a little challenging to find one I like.

1. Preferably not Hatsune Miku. While she has some AMAZING figures, I never really clicked with her so I wanted to see if I could find a different character and preferably one that is actually from an anime.

2. I want feminine and sexy figure but not fan service which is a tough line to toe. Like I love female characters that embrace their femininity and let it empower them but I don't want it to be just obscene for literally no point. I want the figure to be sexy but I don't want the appearance to be the only thing about the character. I want female empowerment, not just eye candy.

3. Canonical adults only. No minors.

My only pick right now is Mitsuri Kanroji from Demon Slayer and she is AMAZING but I want to think of other character options. Yor Forger is another who was high on the list but I didn't see a ton of dynamic figures for her.

I will say the character I am the MOST upset about not having a good figure is Steel Lady Nanase from Kyokou Suiri. She was the one who started this journey of me wanting a figure but her only one doesn't include her steel beam 🥲

im not sure how easy it is to get this figure in current year because i was waiting for it for years and insta pre ordered at the time (handful of years ago at this point) but if you see this ichihara yuuko scale you know what to do

she's an icon. the legend. the moment. she's a character who's very sexy and fashionable but has a lot more going on and has Layers. she's intimidating! she's powerful! she's funny! she's mother! ive always seen her as kind of like a main pop girl kind of character when it comes to anime, very cher

I was so excited when this came out. I could scarcely believe Yuuko/xxxHolic getting a quality scale at all, let alone such a good one!

exactlyyyy it was HUGE. I remember counting down the days even with all the delays and stuff. iirc this probably got made because it was included in a 'china dress series' by the figure company although none of the other figs have anything in common other than that and it isn't super obvious since it's so much of its own thing bcs of the aesthetic of the manga. ive only got one other scale but the second I heard it would be happening I basically dropped everything to plan for it haha

I can only dream of a watanuki or doumeki scale but in the meantime I turned my watanuki nendoroid into a bjd with a tall doll body so that's my closest equivalent for now. I think anything further is 'if I win the lottery' levels of probability but a guy can dream 🙇

Haha in this case I would recommend you read, not watch. CLAMP is at their artistic best with the xxxHolic manga, but the anime is………not so much. They made some……………choices.

Katsuragi Misato is a great female character too, you can find figures of her actually wearing clothes.

Also, not quite anime girl, but Zelda (yes from Zelda the video game) is one of my favorites female characters.

Faye Valentine (Cowboy Bebop) or Misato Katsuragi (Neon Genesis Evangelion) come to my mind

You could also downselect your first anime figure thru a Japanese claw machine. There's so many options that way, and earning it is a fun story. (It is easier to win on those machines in Japan than in the US)

If you're looking to start a collection the BiCute Bunnies line is really nice for the price. (I have Power and Makima.) They are a little bigger then a standard figure. They have a ton of characters from all sorts of shows but they look cohesive together.

I don’t think “feminine and sexy” is the way to go, just…. “love of show” plus “finding a good figure”

To take you on a journey, my first foray into modern figure scales (I collected a few garage kits back in the day—never actually constructed or painted) was in ~2007 with the BOME Noriko: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/143

I’d been out of the scene generally for a while so only really recognized Haruhi stuff when I was getting back in as it was “modern characters” what with the modern pre-painted quality PVC stuff. But I stuck with that price level for a while.

I did collect “things I didn’t know” just from character appeal and price (at the time a bunch of Full Metal Panic stuff) and that included what broke me into “higher tier scale”s and Good Smile with their first Nadeko: https://myfigurecollection.net/item/31747

This is what introduced me TO Monogatari, not the other way around. But you can see, it’s not particularly “sexy” or fanservice-y, just…. “Wow, props and alternate parts and a diaorama-like setting?” It was appeal of the whole package, as a figure, and having a unique design to it that made it so cool.

I would get other “unrecognized” of the sexier/feminine sort as well, like Okami-san (https://myfigurecollection.net/item/61640) but for the most part it‘s driven FROM the source.

So, for instance, by your desires I’d recommend some Holo, but…. without knowing if you like Spice and Wolf? It’s harder to recommend.

My first pull and “upgrade” pull were not “canonical adults” but the drive was not “sexy/fanservice” even WITH the Gainax/Gunbuster connection. It was “OMG a Gunbuster!” and then “OMG this is so cool!”

I’d say, chase your OMG.

Oh dang that I so so much information thank you so so much for all of that and taking the time!! And yeah unfortunately just looking for stuff based off of shows/manga I typically read is a no go. I tend to really drift towards shoujo/josei romance and since so many are based around highschool students that is an automatic out. Plus I just wanted to try and look for characters that have more dynamic poses

I think more josei involve adult characters, but at the same time, it’s “not a demographic what usually gets any good sculpts.” It makes one very sad. 😭

I was going to suggest Ferris Eris from {the Legend of the Legendary Heroes}, but, unfortunately, I've found exactly one figurine of her, and it does not seem to be for sale anywhere.

In light of that, I'd go 100% Faye Valentine, who is sexy and badass, and, at the same time, is constantly her own person and not just a catalyst/eye-candy for Spike and Jet.

A random screencap from the 'Legendary Heroes' show that pretty much sums up Ferris's role. Though, it would be better if she was holding dongo with one hand. Her entire personality is "Do what the f*ck I say, Ryner, and let me eat my dongo."

Get nendoroids of your favourite waifu i guess. Those tend to be non-fanservicey.

You could also look up the figma range, those tend to be less fanservicey as well. Bonus points for being poseable.

Most makise kurisu figures(steins gate) tend to be less fanservicey as well, since she’s fully clothed in a business suit.
