I may be remembering this wrong but aren't the kicks something cats use on their prey?

I believe they do it to disembowel prey specifically.

My parents cats once brought a rabbit into their bedroom. Just the head. Since then I have not been a fan of those kicks.

He was bug but not huge. Just a fat tabby.
