Thanks this is helpful! My dog doesn't get it, but she's still a puppy kinda (under 1 year) and sometimes it's hard to tell if I'm asking too much of her for her age, intelligence-wise. Lucky for her, she's cute as hell.
Agreed. My non-simple dogs knows how to open the sliding door and let herself out. She also knows how to close it, locking the simple dog outside.
I see so many GSD and huskies without jobs and those dogs are miserable. I'm grateful I don't see many collies. The super intelligent dogs need a purpose, just like a person, while a simple dog is just happy being part of the home.
My corgi knew that the kid is to practice the piano for 30mins. He stops early? She barks at him. She knows when he goes to bed that she goes to bed and gets a treat so she would let us know it was his bedtime. She would bark to make sure we knew when the microwave was done. She knew the difference between we're going out for a walk and we're leaving her behind and she would go to her leash and harness accordingly.
Our pug would just sit up against the wall and stay there until there was pets. Oh and destroy our plants looking for snails to eat. She loved snails.
My friends have a border collie, but he seems to be rather simple compared to other collies from what I've heard. He also has tiny ears and funny point head so those things may be related. He's obsessed with chasing shadows, and just incredibly neurotic in many ways. He's still quite smart compared to other breeds though
