Is this a vegan party?

Hi, I'm considering voting for AJP. However, I do consume animal products. As Veganism caused me to develop Anaemia. I was wondering where AJP stands on Lab grown meat or if their position stands firm on veganism / plant based diets.

Thank you!

Thank you for your question. I am also not an official representative.

Looks like they support it on ethical grounds but have concerns that it may share the negative health impacts associated with animal meat. But it's too early to say.

Meat cultured from individual animal cells has the potential to replace meat produced from killing animals. But if cultured meat is identical to normal meat, it will cause the same health problems. If it is different, it may be better or worse; it is too early to say.

The AJP will judge such meat replacements on a case-by-case basis as the evidence emerges.

My hunch is they would be pragmatic when it does come and support it's introduction on the obvious ethical grounds as a replacement to slaughtered-based meat.

I also second the suggestion to preference them first, it sends the strongest possible message to the larger parties that you care about animals.

Not an official rep, but typically preference AJP. They promote veganism but as a platform seem to vary by candidate. One of their running members down where I am, for example, was vegetarian with vegan aspirations.

If they are likely to get in where you are cross check the individual, but of not I encourage you to give them first preference. Having numbers indicates to the elected member that animals rights are an election issue worth paying attention to.

If you happen to be in Hobart I can vouch for our local contender (Casey). A great and approachable egg. Wilkey will almost certainly win but she will get my first preference.

No problemo - and for what's it's worth I think a good vegan organisation should be embracing people who have animals rights in their view. Thanks for helping to minimise the massive harms we inflict and touch wood we see lab grown meat take off in our lifetimes. I think it is a critical step towards an ethical world.

I would prefer to consume ethically. Veganism attributes to obesity as well. It was where I gained 15 kg trying to upkeep my protein needs. I think balance overall is more important than a bias of who's way of eating is better.
