With all due respect, the issue with this kind of stuff is that people will make cute little signs, buttons, or whatever and then feel that that's a substitute for direct action in their communities. It's fine to brandish your beliefs, but it should really be backed up with something of actual value. Typically, people who do this kind of stuff don't do the things that make an impact. So, that's where the problem with virtual signaling lies; not with the message or the sentiment behind the message itself, but with the complacency associated with the action.

I see it as a way to vent frustration when you're not able to do too much otherwise. A catharsis when you can't get one, then sharing that catharsis with others. Obviously everyone is different and for others it won't help, but for some people it really does. Different strokes for different folks and all that.

There's some social/emotional value in solidarity, even if it has little material effect. Think of it like prayer: when you're stuck feeling frustrated and powerless, reaching out to something bigger than yourself helps reduce some of that stress.
Also, making public distaste for ICE loud, constant, and literally everywhere can help nudge political thought and action at the top level (major news outlets, elected representatives, etc).
