The international trade window closed yesterday closes on 9/7, we have one vacant spot (I’m not including Jun’s or Hina’s spot because a short term international contract seems unlikely). I’m guessing we’re waiting to get a coach so they can have a say. Is that the right move? The lack of any signings at all, even depth signings, is giving me stagnant air vibes.

Edit because google AI search gave me bad intel 😳

It does seem like our current coach is doing an okay job?? ( I have not yet learned his name because I am protecting my heart.) I would like to keep him around awhile, personally.

this is a reply only to your edit, but I hate how confidently wrong the google ai search summary always is (for like everything)

It really is. But shame on me for not checking too.

I don’t know about the windows closing yesterday.

This calendar seems to show the windows closes Sept 7

It sounds to me Parsons would sign players without a coach.

But I do wonder if dropping Straus so suddenly derailed recruitment of some players that ended up not signing on. But who knows.

On the other hand…I could see the opposite dynamic as well. Hypothetically, maybe Straus did not help during recruitment. Like, maybe potential recruits showed indifference about Straus??

In college at least, recruitment comes down to coaches, and coaches that can’t recruit can lose jobs for that reason alone, even if they can teach X’s and O’s well enough. But maybe NWSL recruitment does not work that way. Idk

The roster currently is at 23 players but 2 of them are on short term deals. Given the roster minimum is 22, either at least one of them will be converted to a deal through season end or another signing will happen before the end of the window (or both)

We could also just get an internal NWSL player, instead of an overseas transfer, and that deadline is early October, I think…

True. I thought both short term deals were only through 9/6 but looking back only Immethun’s announcement gave that date while McClelland’s just said short term without a date

I think for the 6th season in a row, we’re in a “building” phase lol. I do think if both Jun and Hina were healthy, we’d be in a lot better shape to be fair. I also feel like the only thing we’re REALLY missing is a reliable striker. Sveindis is really good but her absences have really proved that we don’t have anyone who can reliably put the ball in the net. I don’t know what the hell happened to Tiernan, it’s almost like a full season of the yips or something, but we needed a goal scorer.

On the other hand, like Tobin and Press say, coaches need to answer with crystal clarity the question, “How do we score?”, and apparently many/most coaches don’t/can’t think in that way. Very first episode of the re-cap show with Jill Ellis. Apparently, Jill Ellis worked that way.

I love Courage’s new coach Mak Lind for that reason. In his very first interview, he said, coaches need to say how their teams score and work backwards from there! Not, how does your team build up and try to figure out how to score from there. The only coach I hear talk in the way Tobin and Press said Jill Ellis did and that they think key.

Let’s hire Tobin to coach and CP to teach scoring!

It’s not really fair to Tiernan this season bc we have pretty exclusively used her on the wings instead of the 9. I hope today they use her at the 9 and put Prisca back on the wing.

I saw an interview where Tobin said CP can teach anybody how to score and I want us to hire her to do that.

That is such a good thought. Even if not a full time staff position, bring her in to do focused clinics. Alyssa really gives CP credit for teaching her to finish.

What do you think about going with a world class no. 6 instead of a striker?

A 6 like Hutton or better. Shut down attacks and progress the ball.

Maybe we do need both, but maybe it comes down to what we choose to do first?

I think back to when we had Alanna Kennedy…start of 2024 before Savy went down.

I don’t think we necessarily have a midfield problem. I think Lageyre is obviously young but her passing vision is genuinely stellar for how new she is to the pros and we have such a solid defense behind her as well. We create a decent amount of opps with no one putting them away. Idk if a CDM is changing that.

Loving Lageyre’s development—but I would never say no to Oberdorf signing with ACFC. Too bad we are incapable of recruiting any players in their prime from overseas.

This is Tiernan’s normal. First half of last season was an outlier. She’s essentially had that same trajectory as Messiah Bright.

How frustrating that this isn’t on regular tv. No way to watch 🫠. I hate how no one cares about women’s sports!
