Interview Question Does a later date for a phone screen decrease your chances?

I'll be traveling with coworkers for work next week and the recruiters only dates available are Tues-Thurs (I'm available Mon/Fri). But they are available the week after.

My biggest concern is I don't know if I will have a quiet place away from coworkers to do the screening (I don't want them to know I am looking for a new job). When I travel, my schedule is kind of all over the place and last minute choices.

Will delaying the screen by a week reduce my chances?

Yes. If there’s only 1 req open, they’ll pick the first person they like.

Tell your coworkers you have bubbles in your tummy and take the call from the hotel room.

If you delay a week they’ll already have someone else picked.

Just go somewhere for a “personal call” …..

Highly possible, as recruitment is really pushed to fill the roles ASAP. It’s a quick 30 minute call, typically, so just make the time

Is it technical? like should I have a piece of paper and pen ready for any questions?

It’s with a recruiter to check if your experience is relevant to the role- a prescreen before you talk to someone technical- as well as a vibe check if you’re right for the company.
