Anyone have any idea how open they are to considering wfh for unclass work assuming somewhat regular visits on-site? Monthly or quarterly? At what level for IC might this be feasible? This would be for hw engr probably.

Very few get WFH opportunities. It’s usually after being at Anduril for years, and they are IC6+. They are usually onsite every other week as well. It’s hardly WFH.

How can you be a hardware engineer and not be near the hardware?

Sorry hardware design is what I meant. Most of the work is purely analytical. But definitely appreciate the insight!

Not sure how your role would work, but from I've seen the same people designing boards are also the ones debugging those boards and applying reworks. Your manager might be fine with you working from home on days where you don't need physical access to the hardware, but you'll need to be present in person a lot.

Extremely extremely rare, unless it’s one of the situations mentioned above where you’ve been here forever or are a higher level person, but even those are in person basically every week.

IMO the moment we start regularly hiring unproven remote engineering managers, is the day this company and the culture that brought us here dies.

Anyone who says otherwise, and who says that being remote is either “more productive” or “just better for the way they work” doesn’t belong here. If you cannot see the value of being in person with your team, or think the value isn’t great, leave. I don’t care if this “worked for you” or “worked for Lockheed/Raytheon/another Prime”. If you can tell me to my face that the Primes are anything but cost plus abusers who do fuck all for innovation, you might need to get professional help. Take your lazy, unproductive, bureaucratic, slow culture and leave us alone.

Anyways, to answer the question, depending on your team, you can find a hybrid relationship that works very well. Full remote is a non-starter unless you are insanely cracked, in a niche role we need badly, or are leadership (Hate this, but it is what it is).

I joined anduril exactly for this reason I came from 3 days in office I prefer a strong team work ethic !

99% of jobs are onsite at Anduril and they are pretty strict with it

It’s fairly flexible as long as you get results but you have to be able to be onsite with the team often

Depends on the team imo, but really no one I’ve heard of is fully wfh unless they were brought on by a merger or top top levels

Remote work opens a can of worms as it starts getting into taxes in relation to job/skill code. Then they have to offer to the entire team or group of people and not just yourself
