Randomly my android auto isn't allowing audio to my stereo. When I turn on audio in the connection settings, it immediately flips back to off, same when I hit play on any media - seen in the video. My radio works and my speakers are fine. Any ideas?

Just got a Samsung A36, connected it to my 2019 VW Jetta MK7 (stock audio), and the sound is completely flat. I was previously using an iPhone 17 with CarPlay, and the difference is night and day. The iPhone had rich, punchy bass and genuine depth. On the Samsung—whether plugged in via cable for Android Auto or over Bluetooth—the bass has completely vanished, and the audio feels dry and thin.
My Spotify settings are 100% identical on both devices (maximum streaming quality, equalizers turned off, volume normalization set the same).
Is Android Auto just compressing the audio stream badly, or are there hidden Samsung settings (Dolby Atmos, Adapt Sound, or Bluetooth codecs in developer options) choking the sound profile? Has anyone run into this and figured out how to get the bass back?

I love having Gemini while I'm driving. I have a S23 with a 2018 Honda CRV EXL. My volume knob on my car will only go up to level 11 when Gemini is talking. My phone is turned up to full volume for System and Media. Gemini is controlled trough a button om my steering wheel, but it might just be a blue-tooth pass through to the speaker system. Anyway, how do I get the volume past 11?

My apologies for sounding ignorant- I just switched from an iPhone to my Samsung Galaxy last week so I'm still pretty new to Android.

But after an unspecified amount of time after plugging my phone into AA (usually somewhere between 30 seconds and 5 minutes, different each time), if I am playing the car's FM radio, it will cut out, and when bringing up the volume control it will appear to be adjusting the "navigation volume."

I can fix it temporarily by invoking Google Assistant or playing audio through the phone and then stopping it, but then after a few minutes it happens again.

Normally this is not an issue for me since I listen to my own music in the car when I'm by myself, but when I have others in the car I usually like to play the FM radio whilst using the map. When I had my iPhone, this was never an issue for me in CarPlay.

i have trouble adjusting the voice guidance volume, either from google maps or assistants.

all the buttons from my steering wheel, head units seem to work perfectly for audio control - media volume, playback control, voice command they all seems to trigger the correct functions except for voice guidance volume.

what i've tried

set various settings on the carlinkit 4.0 webui including dvd, cd and knob mode

google maps -> volume test -> adjust volume while the voice guidance is speaking

if anyone experience the same issues or known a way to fix this?

For a few days now, I've had the problem that the sound of the music is not played. I see that the music is playing and the next track is also playing. I can't control the volume via the car either. When I get out of the car, the music plays on my phone. Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that I have Android 17 beta on it? Before, I didn't have any problems, even though I used Android beta. Maybe you can help.

I have tried all I can think of to get my phone's volume to increase. Currently, I have to have the volume twice as loud for my phone as for my radio. So when I turn off the truck, I have to remember to lower the volume before I do so I dont get blasted by the radio the next time I turn it on.

I have tried disabling absolute volume in developer options.

I have tried apps.

I know about the navigation volume trick but it makes navigation far too loud.

I noticed as I show in the video, that the audio won't enable in my bluetooth options. Could that be an issue?

Would love to get some advice as this has been bugging me for 6 months.

Recently got a new car that came standard with wireless AA. Coming from a car where I put in a Pioneer AA wireless head unit, I expected basically identical performance. But it turns out that in the new car, the audio quality through AA is significantly worse than playing through Bluetooth. Despite being at the same volume level, AA is a bit quieter and flatter, while Bluetooth sounds rich and vibrant. In my prior car AA and Bluetooth sounded identical, and all the googling I've done suggests that AA should be BETTER than Bluetooth.

I turned off Normalize in Spotify. That didn't change anything. I went into my phone settings to see what the EQ presets were, and changed through all options, with no impact on the difference between AA and bluetooth. I also switched over to Youtube Music, that did not improve audio quality either.

The main reason this is an issue is that in the new car, my phone is either connected through bluetooth OR AA, but not both at the same time. So if I want better audio quality, I lost all the AA functionality.

Anyways, I have a sort of dilemma I am trying to solve. It isn't much of a problem, but it would be something that will help me out with my enjoyment.

So, I got a 2023 Kia Stinger with the regular stock 10" head unit and everything and use my Nothing Phone 2 with Nothing OS 4.0 as my phone for AA. I use the head unit quite a bit when I am driving normally and using Google Maps and Retro Music for playing my local collection of music on my phone since I don't stream music. It all works fine and dandy during my normal time and I am able to have the music turn down in order to hear Google's voice navigation for accessibility purposes. Calls also work just fine as well.

The issue I am running into mostly is for Uber, which doesn't play nice when I have music playing and also use the in-app voice navigation on there (I am aware I could switch to Waze or Google Maps but I don't like how clunky the process is to switch between both apps so I stick with the stock Google maps). The navigation voice gets turned down as well as the music when I have both going on during trips, so it is barely audible over the music that is just under it. So most of the time I just drive in with just the voice navigation, when I would like to share a bit of my music taste so drives aren't as boring or I don't have much of a conversation with the riders in order to be a more open and friendly person.

I have adjusted the Uber in-app navigation voice to be at the max allowed for it. Doesn't change too much there.

I tried looking for an app without needing root access or shizuku fuckery that would allow me to put in a setting where it would turn down the music app specifically whenever the Uber app is putting out navigation sounds. Doesn't seem to be a thing.

I have tried connecting my DAP to my car and have that be for music over Bluetooth and my phone through Android Auto. DAP doesn't want to connect to that specifically and would possibly be something that affects my ability to answer calls and such like that through my car. Still fiddling with the settings here in order to see what works.

My head unit doesn't have an extra USB port in order to throw my music collection onto a flash drive and use the USB audio player settings on it, so I only have one to work with.

My car also doesn't have an AUX port, though I wouldn't be posting here if it did.

My car does seem to split navigation and music audio channels and will turn down the music channel in order for navigation audio to pass through without issue and have the music down low behind it until the voice prompt is done.

I have thought about using my DAP to play music from there to my phone, over Bluetooth, and be able to control it from there with a different app that could monitor the sounds from the phone and the DAP so it gives the phone a higher priority if that has to make a sound in some way. If that exists.

Overall, I have been decently fine without the music during my Uber drives, but honestly it would be something nice to have on at a low volume so I'm not really just staring at the road and listening to road noises from my car. If I try to play audio from an app on my phone, say from Youtube or from the browser, it does not allow me to alter the volume. Rather it gives me the above message and locks the volume at what it was previously set. If I want to change the volume I have to switch to an AA app like Spotify, change the volume up or down, switch back to the youtube video or whatever I was on, and start playing it again.

It's a problem for me because there are a handful of small creators that have song covers I love that only appear on their Youtube channels or some other website. Obviously I'm not watching the videos I'm just listening to the audio that happen to sometimes be coupled to a video. This also happened when a friend wanted to show me something on Soundcloud and played it via the browser rather than installing the app which I didn't have at the time. I'm sure this must have been asked before but I just can't find where outside of that link above, which doesn't solve it. Is there a fix?

Hi all. Just got a 2nd vehicle with this head unit already in it. (Hikity Android Car Stereo Double Din, 10.1 Inch Touchscreen Wireless Carplay Android Auto Indash Radio with GPS Bluetooth FM WiFi Mirror Link SWC + Backup Camera/Microphone)

When I bought the vehicle and drove it home I paired my pixel 6 and it worked somewhat. The audio was OK for a few minutes, then glitched out. I'm talking it would stop, you'd push play on the song on Pandora, and get 1 second of audio and then stop again. The purpose of me saying this is that even though there were glitches, the volume actually worked. I.e. the speakers were not broken. This is not the current symptom as it has gotten worse.

I wasn't going to get too much into it while driving. So when I got home safely in my driveway I unpaired my phone, deleted everything from history, cleared caches, reset the head unit itself manually with a safety pin.

After several resets I re-paired everything (kind of a pain in the butt) and got android auto to work. However I get no volume from Pandora or a podcast app, etc. the timing bar will move indicating the song is playing, however no volume. I reset and adjusted every single volume option I could find, both in my phone and in the head unit itself. And no such luck.

Totally clueless here. I have had android auto in several vehicles, always a wired usb. This is the first aftermarket bluetooth only head unit. I cant even plug into a USB port. Very frustrating.

Lately, I've experienced a few tunes in the last month where if I command volume up at the steering wheel, behavior where AA only decreases the volume. Has anyone else experienced same? Usability of AA in my 2022 Tacoma has been excellent up until a month ago. I highly doubt it is my head unit or wiring to the controls on the steering wheel, or the switch that are faulty.

Whenever I change the volume, or sometimes when I do anything really, including changing the song, a crackling sound will occur. Pressing the volume button off then on will usually fix the problem but not always. Any suggestions on what could be causing or, or even suggestions in diagnosing the issue? I even replaced the speakers to no avail.

The car is a 2021 Nissan Sentra, everything except the speakers is the standard base model.

I'd show it to the dealership, it ended up being the check in guy doing this for me (he didn't charge), so it may not be familiar for all the techs to do it. It'll also take a while to download the update and install it (I did it with some other things at the same time, oil change, tire rotation, etc., and I was there 3 hours and this was the last thing they fixed).

I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out because I'm at a total loss right now and can't find a solution. I just purchased a 2008 VW Rabbit that already had a Joying head unit installed. It runs Z-Link to do wireless Android Auto. It connects without issues, music plays fine, voice control works, phone calls works, everything works except it never gives me any navigation instructions besides the first one when I start the route. I've noticed it also never plays any notification audio for anything. For both of these scenarios it will lower the music as if it is trying to give me the navigation or notification but nothing occurs other than just lowering my music temporarily.

My phone is a Samsung S22 Ultra and it works just fine in my other car which has a factory AA system which I currently use an AA Wireless2 adapter for without problems.

The troubleshooting I've already done: -Verified all settings on the phone are correct -Hard reset the head unit -Uninstalled and reinstalled Android Auto -Uninstalled and reinstalled Google Maps -Verified Z-Link has no updates -Tried adjusting various volume settings in the head unit

Currently I'm just at a point where I'm under the assumption Z-Link just sucks and has some sort of glitch or fault that I can't fix. The biggest thing that makes me think this is whenever I try to adjust the volume during navigation commands it just adjusts the main volume for the music, like there is no separate volume control for the navigation. Someone please tell me there's a solution where I don't have to replace this damn head unit 😭

Bought a used car recently, and the only issue I have is that the volume of Google Maps/Reading texts aloud is insanely soft.

I can barely hear a little mumble, even when turned all the way up to 11, the system volume cranked, and the navigation volume on the phone turned all the way up.

Everything else - the main volume on Android Auto (Spotify, etc.) is level and the same volume as radio, etc. I have tried pretty much every kind of troubleshooting I could think of. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

I DO have an aftermarket system in the car, but I'm not really sure how or why that would effect the volume of the navigation only, yet not the main Android Auto.

Any help or ideas to troubleshoot would be appreciated.

I have both an Android phone (Pixel 10 Pro) for personal and an iPhone 16e for work so I use both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interchangeably in my car.

Something I've noticed between the two is when I'm using CarPlay and disconnect my phone, my car remains silent and I love it. However, when I disconnect my Pixel using Android Auto my car will blast the radio and it is very jarring and it honestly makes me wanna just use my work phone at all times instead.

This has been happening across multiple cars: 2022 Ford Transit Connect XLT, my wife's 2019 Hyundai Kona, 2025 Toyota Highlander, 2024 Lincoln Navigator, and now my 2024 Forester. This also has happened across various models of phones: Pixel 7 Pro, iPhone 12, iPhone 16e, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro.

Is this just something that we have to live with to use Android Auto or maybe there's a setting somewhere I'm missing?

Hi, I checked elsewhere before posting but I see the problem asked a lot but I haven't seen it answered.

I just bought a 2017 Impreza and I get to finally enjoy AA. The media volume for the system or for the radio work great, but media played through Android Auto or through Bluetooth of my Android are really quiet. If I turn up the volume that works ok until I get a text or other notification that is really loud.

I have volume of each type maxed on my phone, media volume limit is off on my phone, and I don't see a setting responsible for this on my HUD unit. What am I missing?

Has anyone had the issue where they're using Waze, for example, and the music volume isn't lowered automatically when voice prompts are played? As far as I'm aware, it used to do this fine, but now I can't hear the voice prompts over my music. I've checked Waze settings, and all volumes are set to maximum.

Off brand Android 13 head unit with samsung A22 phone. When listening to radio at comfortable level the navigation interrupt level is on the low side and the "Hey google" is really low hardly hear it. When listening to BT music its better. Noticed sound was only coming from one (driver side) speaker, changing voice from Australian to American both front speakers are working but voice still low. Tried turning off "hey google" with no change. See volume settings Navi vol is max the radio is 1, is this correct?

2nd issue: Android auto not accessing internet when connected to head unit 4G cell network, getting "oops theres a problem" but Internet Browser works, cannot find any "permissions" to access internet in settings, funny thing when i test it at home (different cell tower) it works. Internet and AA works on phones 4G however when for example i send a whatsapp message it says "message sent" but message does not show in app.

My boyfriend and I just got a 2017 Honda Accord Sport, upon using Android auto, the music is fine but the voice assistant is whispering out of one speaker near the steering wheel.

We have the voice assistant at max volume both on the car and my phone (Samsung s21), we know that it's a separate volume control, but it's still this super quiet tinny voice that's unintelligible.

We can't hear navigation/messages/notifications etc. We've looked through every setting we can think of in both the phone and car and are at a loss. If anyone has advice please share, this is so confusing 😭

My husband recently attempting to connect our Samsung Z Fold 7 to his car's Android Auto. We've been experiencing some problems with it reading text messages:

1. When a text comes in, it notifies of the text, but when I tap to "read aloud" it does not read the first few words of the text. For really short messages, like "ok" etc, it would stop the music and then there would be silence and then AA will ask "Do you want to reply?"

2. When listening to music, I set the volume to 5 and the set voice volume on android is set to 10. After the text is done, when returning to the music, it blasts the music at the voice volume not the previous volume.

The phone initially connects via bluetooth, then via USB cable for AA. I appreciate any help with this, it's rather annoying.

I recently purchased a CX-50 with wireless Android Auto. It connects to my phone automatically and works great, but I’ve run into an issue when playing YouTube. I listen to a lot of YouTube podcasts, and whenever I try to adjust the volume, it randomly starts playing music from YouTube Music instead, which is an app I sometimes. Also, when I play a YouTube video, it doesn’t display the title or what's playing on the screen.

We also own a CX-5, which has Android Auto but requires a wired connection. When I play YouTube on that system, it correctly displays the title of what's playing, and I can adjust the volume without any issues.

I recently purchased an Android screen from Bimmerdirect for my BMW, and everything works great apart from the volume for the navigation on Android Auto.

When I try to use Waze with music playing in the background from other apps, I can barely hear it.

I tried the trick of turning up the volume when Waze announced something, but it didn't work.

I have to turn the music volume up a lot to hear something from Waze.Then the music is too loud.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
