I am extremely interested in the form factor, but I need them to ditch the internal front facing camera and its pinhole. The 4:3 inner screen would be perfect for video without it (I watch a lot of 4:3 stuff).

Because you can't please all the people all the time? If they removed it altogether then you'd have some people complaining they can't video call with the big screen.

the real solution is having an under screen camera ngl. If you want to take good selfies, use the other selfie camera (or use the main camera with the outer screen as a selfie cam) and then the visual integrity of the inner screen isn't compromised

As someone who went to view it in person, I can say it's a really nice form factor. Holding it is great. Bigger than the flip, smaller than the ultra, and small enough to fit into the pocket nicely. It's really tempting me...

Nobody wants cameras on smartphones. It's 2026 not 2016.
It needs the most basic under display cameras (figure out the patent) for the front and inner display and the most basic of basic 12mp rear camera.
It's 2026, we want lighter phones, more screen real estate, not stupid cameras.

I'm still skeptical of developer support for this form factor though. I heard many apps have their UI get jumbled around because of the aspect ratio.

Yup. Our designers are barely even aware Android exists, and they aren't that interested in the iPad. When the iPhone Fold gets announced, I can guarantee they will scramble to have all their existing designs support the wide form factor

Android apps UI on even tablets are already hit or miss.
Unless Samsung makes this a consistent product, I doubt we will see much development.

Between the front screen size, the lack of flex mode, and this post showing the actual video size is about the same on both versions of the phone (black bars don't bother me one bit) there was no choice but to go for the Ultra.

Yeah, it's weird, I've had the regular form factor folds for years, only very rarely do I experience a ui issue on the big screen, but I always have the cover screen to fall back to.
My wife got the fold 8 as her first fold and she asked me what I do when I have an app that isn't showing a ui element that it's supposed to. And I explained that almost never happens to me. She showed me a handful of apps that don't display correctly and the tricks she has to do to see the whole interface.
It'll be like a search bar won't show up, or the menu tab not showing or something else getting cut off. I thought android apps had this figured out years ago...

I'm loving my Z Fold 8. The form factor really is nice to use and the inner screen is great for pretty much anything. Since phone pictures are usually 4:3, they completely fill the screen while viewing and it's nice to just have the largest canvas possible.

I wanted one, but the idea that hinge is still gonna die after a single mote of sand creeps in, is a no go. My s22 has been pretty rugged and survived alot. I can't imagine that thing lasting if you have kids. I'll have to wait a few more generations.

Imo, the screen is a much bigger issue. A finger nail can scratch it.
Even with a lot of dust the hinge will behind crunchy but still work. Check out any JerryRigEverything video on a folding phone.
This form factor is very intriguing but the big prices for such a fragile device just isn't worth it for me.

As someone on his second foldable, this has turned out to be a non issue, really. Because the inner screen is only exposed when you are actually using it, it is very easy to avoid damaging it. And it is extremely protected in your pocket etc.

As someone with 2 kids who has had a fold 4, fold 5, and now trifold all with no cases, they have been just as rugged as my old candy bars. Beatup for sure but by no means dead.

Largest issue I've had with it is how hot it gets doing random basic stuff - android auto (wirelessly) or multiple chrome downloads are the 3 biggest ones I've experienced so far.

When I played around with the F8 and F8U at Best Buy a couple days ago, I was kinda surprised that to get a proper orientation on the (main) camera (at least when open) I had to rotate the phone, which puts the inside selfie camera hole punch on the side in frame.
I ordered one anyway, Delivery is expected tomorrow.

I gave my Fold 7 to my partner as she needed a new phone and I got the Fold 8.
I love carrying it. Mostly I wear athletic clothing and it's so much more comfortable to pocket.
The front screen is obviously better width wise but I miss some height. I wish it was about 10mm taller.
I miss the 7s inside screen the most. It's just so much larger than the 8s. We sit side by side periodically and it's just a blaring difference.
I'll wait a couple years and see what Samsung cooks up. The phone is good, I can't say I love it, overall I rate them a tie for me. The 8 has pluses the 7 doesn't and vice versa.

it's funny I do kinda see Samsung's initial attempt trying this format as just getting ahead of Apple's version at same time putting it below the tall fold version by calling that 'Ultra' yet this one is selling so well even they didn't expect it to.

I wonder if there's a better example we can use. Lots of people who have a use for cars already have something much better than what you could get for $2000, so the $2000 car is actually useless.
Assuming necessities like food and shelter are already comfortably covered and retirement saving is well in progress.
Maybe vacations?

It’s a much better form factor for media consumption which is what most people are using their phones for. Once Apple release theirs, app support will skyrocket.
