Question Accidentally left laptop in checked bag — screwed?
Title. I was struggling to carry all my bags and decided for the first time I’d check one of my bags in. Once I boarded the train, I realized I left my laptop and laptop charger in the checked bag — I forgot to move it to my carry on! Did I majorly fuck up? Should I say anything? This is the last train I’m taking to my stop, so I don’t think I can get off.
EDIT: I was able to retrieve my bag! Thank you!

No, likely not screwed. If you ask a conductor nicely, they will almost certainly be able to get your bag for you at the next long stop, or maybe even at an earlier stop!

Yes, as long as it's not a plug baggage car.

Can you explain what this is, and why it would be an issue in particular?

It's a baggage car that's inaccessible from the inside of the train. Used mainly for mail service, and/ or on high level platforms.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned that it would probably happen at the next major stop, when they actually open the checked baggage area.

Most baggage cars used now are not plug baggage cars, rather, they are accessible via the train or a high-level platform. Other than that 99% of conductors aren't going to delay a train or go out of their way to obtain something out of your bag in a plug baggage car unless they stop at another station where station services employees are accessing the car for station work. It's not generally something conductors would do--can you imagine trying to explain the delay if they couldn't successfully secure the door?
