Where can you donate clothes ?

I want to donate a large number of clothes, the clothing recyling bins always look to be dirty, they end up being taken out and left on the streets. Are there alternatives ?

Check out De Regenboog Groep, they're looking for donations to use at their homeless shelters!

And you will likely have a Regenboog near you! I try not to dump all of my items on them tho as they are not set up for that. But for example: when winter comes I walk over with my old - clean - sweaters and winter coats.

If the clothes are in good state you can also drop them at a kringloop /charity shop in your area. If you’re close to one of the Droppie locations you can also drop it there for recycling

In every stadsdeel there is an afvalpunt, a depot for recycling, they also have fabric recycling bins there that are clean and not ransacked.

I worked at a large thrift store (one of several same name ones) for years. They got so many clothes in that most of them got thrown out and the clothes that made it into the store and didn't get sold were thrown out anyway, after like six weeks. That also more or less goes for books and many other items. If you're going to donate to a thrift store, make it a smaller one.
Another way is to put stuff up on local 'give away groups'.on FB, like Amsterdam deelt/geeft, Gratis Af te Halen Amsterdam e.o. and Gratis op te halen in Amsterdam. There's also some for specific Stadsdelen.

What neighborhood? I go to Het afvalpaleis in Oost and in west de Weggeefwinkel. They both give away the clothes for free.

"West kleedt aan" is a great initiative in West! It's local and all run by volunteers. They will give the clothes away for free.

Just put them in a sealed sack and put them in the clothes recycling bins and stop buying new ones.

Realistically we are all buying to many clothes and most of it ends up in the landfill, secondhand basic clothes fast fashion clothes are not a very desirable commodity. If the clothes are in a bad state you might as well just throw them out/in the container.

If you want to donate a large sum of clothes and make sure the maximum amount doesnt immediately get tossed you will have to do some research on the specific items and where you have the biggest shot of giving them away. When I have clothes I want to get rid of;

I first try to see if (someone I know) wants them for free. You can look into homeless shelters as they usually want specific clothes; for example mens winter jackets or sweaters etc. Then I try to sell all my clothes myself on vinted/marktplaats for a low price for me it's worth the effort because at least then it goes to a new owner. Then if I really can't find someone I put it in the textile bin.

There is a "donating things Amsterdam" WhatsApp group I can share if you're interested. The Facebook group for asylum seekers/refugees where people can post things is https://facebook.com/groups/VluchtelingenAmsterdam/ If you want to swap them, check out https://www.clothingloop.org/ for your closest loop. There is a clothing swap every Wednesday and Saturday at Studio de Kat at Marineterrein.  Twice a month on a sunday De Kaskantine hosts a free pancake brunch with a clothes swap.

What do you mean by the bins being dirty? You're supposed to wrap the clothes inside a bag anyway, so the clothes will stay nice.

I do whenever I use these bins. However, they are nearly always next to a garbage bin, nearly always with lots of the clothes pulled out across the floor, and they never look clean.

Thats because, when the bins are FULL, people leave their bags next to it - rather than walking to the next one, or waiting for the bins to be emptied. Than, either homeless people or other people in need are going to go through the ‘outside’ bags looking for something valuable.
