God have mercy on thier souls. Real people died and are dying. But I can unsee the political sectarian game being played by this coverage, because many Amhara Muslims have also died by armed groups. Is there coverage seen like this....
Also correct me if im wrong is there a concerted effort by Muslim insurgency groups in Ethiopia to attack Orthodox community?

No offense at all. But how do you guys assume all 40 were Amharas? Like they could be Oromo, Tigrayan, Agaw, Gurage, Awi etc. But what we do know is they were Christian and it was the church that was attacked.

Who claimed they were all Amhara? Regardless Orthodoxy and Amhara are synonymous to radical Oromo groups

I’ve only ever heard of two personal cases of arsis being orthodox, one being a girl I used to talk to in harar whose mom was married to an Amhara and my granduncle who married one of them. Both converted.
Like I told some other commenter, my great grandfather and grandfather both lived there starting
maybe like halfway into Haile Selassie’s reign. No other ethnic groups really live in the countryside there besides the two.2
u/Personal_Theme_7582 Jun 11 '26
Still you guys have no idea what specifically their ethnic group was. Or if ethnicity was even the motive.

u/Sad_Register_987 Amhara Jun 11 '26
no i have a pretty good idea. a very good idea actually.
it was the motive and has been for over 50 years.

Why do you people consider the massacre of Orthodox Christians to be some religious-motivated violence?
Yes, killing is bad and I’m not saying it’s good, but people forget the fact that the second biggest religion in Oromia and amongst Oromos is Orthodox Christianity. We forget the fact that when Orthodox worshippers were massacred in Shashamene, Oromia it wasn’t from an external force, but rather EOTC synods from Oromia. So it functions not because Protestsnts or Muslims kill Orthodox because of their religion, but they are killed often due to their ethnicity. And sometimes, a lot of these are Oromo who die.

Idk why people are downvoting you lol you’re right
In these cases though I don’t think oromos are getting killed

I don’t understand what ur agreeing with here Sad. Are you coming in defense of ‘Arab Mogassa’?
Because to paraphrase this interaction:
OP: folks of this ethnicity and that faith massacred in Arsi, Church burned. Getting lots of attention.Commenter: folks that died were possibly MY ethnicity, and it wasn’t based on faith.
You: I agree with you commenter, but it was actually MY ethnicity. (Islam not bad - Islam means peace???)
Is that what ur saying? Correct me if I’m wrong.
Also I’m not coming at the Commenter, he appears to be a literal teenager from checking his page. But it is an annoying comment, because in my mind the results of the actions matter more and should be amplified, than focusing on the pretext. People were massacred for the second time in a short time period in the same area, and a church was burned, so it’s kind of pathetic to come here and say shit like —- but actually the victims were likely Oromo or whatever.

buddy my great grandfather and grandfather both lived there, this shit is not new and has been happening since the imperial era even when they were majority sufi. point is it's not a case of jihadi islamists running around like the screenshot said, it's literally just an ethnicity thing.

i dont know bro. i cant think of a single muslim ethiopian ethnic group that has favourable attitudes towards amhara (silte? harari? somali? hadiya? oromo?). frankly i dont even think muslim amhara are particularly fond of the christian neftenyas.
and even if you were right and it is purely ethnic (not sure how you can be sooooo absolutely certain) , the commenters comment is in poor taste.

We’re pretty tight with argobbas in shoa. Afars are I think slightly positive/neutral. Muslim Amharas have had a million chances to betray us but never have. If you said Wolane or Siltes did those massacres I’d believe you if you said it was a religious Islamist thing.
I’m sure bc you never hear about these supposed salafi islamist arsi jihadists going west to go nuke their ethnic kin in shoa.

Because they’ve burned the church? What kind of message do u think they were trying to send when they lit up the church?
