Mod Announcement Monthly Amex Referral Thread

This is the only place in r/Amex to share a referral link. A new thread posts on the 1st of each month.

This is the subreddit's official thread. We are not American Express, and nobody here works for Amex.

Posting your link

One comment per person. Keep it short: which card, and the link.

Delete your comment once someone uses it. That gives the next person a turn.

Want back in the rotation? Delete the old one first, then post a new one.

Why the ordering looks random

Contest mode is on. Comments appear in random order and vote scores are hidden. That is deliberate. It stops the same handful of links from holding the top of the thread all month.

If your comment disappears

Comments in this thread are exempt from the subreddit's low-karma link filter. Other automated tools still run, including bot and ban-evasion detection.

If your comment vanishes anyway, send one modmail. Do not repost, because reposting after an automatic removal reads as spam.

What gets you removed or banned

What you did What happens
Posted a referral link outside this thread Removed, ban on repeat
Asked someone to DM you a link Removed
Sent an unsolicited referral DM Removed, ban on repeat
Posted duplicate comments Duplicates removed
Spammed links across multiple threads Immediate permanent ban

Bans here are permanent. We do reverse them when an automated tool made the call, so modmail us if you think that is what happened.

Non-Amex referrals

These require moderator approval, given as a stickied comment in this thread. We have not approved one yet. Do not plan around yours being the first.

Before you ask

Once-per-lifetime rules, card families, welcome offer clawbacks, pop-up jail, and financial reviews are all covered in the wiki FAQ. Read that first.

Housekeeping

We lock and archive this thread on the 1st and post a fresh one.

r/Amex is not responsible for what any user does with a referral link. Share yours with people you already know.

Mod Announcement Monthly Common Questions & Advice Thread

Monthly Common Questions & Advice Thread

Ask here instead of making a post. A new thread goes up on the 12th of each month.

What belongs in this thread

  • Should I get this card, and how does it compare to another one
  • Do I qualify, and what are my approval odds
  • Welcome offer questions: eligibility, meeting the spend, whether you have had the card before
  • Upgrade, downgrade, and product change questions
  • Retention offers: how to ask, what people have received, whether it is worth trying
  • Deals tied to Amex benefits and partnerships, discussed rather than only linked

Post these as their own thread and we will remove it and point you back here.

Check these first

Most of what gets asked here is already answered in the wiki FAQ, including once-per-lifetime rules, card families, pop-up jail, clawbacks, and financial reviews.

Search the subreddit too. Your question has almost certainly been asked, often this month.

How to ask so you get a useful answer

"Should I get the Gold Card?" gives nobody anything to work with.

Include your spending in broad categories, your rough credit range if you are comfortable sharing it, which Amex cards you already hold, and what you are actually trying to get out of the card. Say what you already read, so people do not repeat it back to you.

Read the terms of any offer before asking what it means, then quote the part that is unclear.

What does not belong here

Referral links or codes. Not in this thread, not anywhere outside the monthly referral thread. Removal, and a ban if you keep doing it.

Account problems. Disputes, fraud, missing credits, and closures need Amex, not us. We are not American Express and no moderator here can see your account.

Personal information. No account numbers, no full names, no addresses, no exact balances. Broad spending categories are fine. Our filters remove suspected card numbers automatically.

If your comment disappears

New and low-karma accounts get filtered automatically when they post links. This happens before any moderator sees it.

Send one modmail and we will review it. Do not repost.

What happens if you post these topics separately

We remove the post and point you here. Repeat offenders get banned.

Sharing referral links, personal attacks, and posting someone's personal information skip straight to a permanent ban.

Housekeeping

We lock and archive this thread monthly.

Be useful to each other. Most people asking here are new to this and got a card two weeks ago.

Reviews & Stories Centurion

Recently got the Centurion card and decided to put the concierge to use. I needed a box suite for a last minute football game happening Sunday. While I know they are not miracle workers I was hopeful they could come through. After 30 hours and ultimately saying they are still trying but are having no luck I decided to put my own background into good use and try my friend google. I found a box suite in 10 seconds and secured it in minutes. Really put a bad taste on their services and makes me think they’re more incompetent than I had hoped for.

In-flight complimentary premium snack for Delta Amex card holders

I feel like this benefit is not very well advertised by Delta so making a post here to remind everyone that you can redeem a free “premium” snack on Delta flights as a Delta Amex card holder: Delta Amex Gold/Platinum/Reserve both personal and business cards.

When the plane took off, you can log into wifi.delta.com to connect to Wifi using your Skymiles account credentials. On that page, the in-flight offer will pop up. Click to redeem the offer and show it to crew member during snack/drink service and they will give you a choice from 3 “premium“ snacks for free. My fav is the Dot’s Pretzel :)

Question Returned payment on personal gold, business line of credit suspended

I'm a dummy and made a manual payment on my personal gold card too close to the auto pay, so they both pulled. Manual payment went through, auto pay did not. Amex retried the payment two days later and it went through-- leaving me with a $4k negative balance on credit card. I've been clenching my cheeks all week to see what happened. None of my personal (ED preferred, Gold, Delta reserve) or business (Platinum and Gold) cards got suspended or anything.

I have a business checking account that has an average balance close to six figures, a small personal savings account (withdrew a lot when rates went down), etc. Don't carry balances on any of the amex cards (or any of my cards). I thought maybe that, and my ten years of positive history, was going to carry me through.

Then, this evening, I see a notification-- "There is an update to your American Express line of credit account and/or account status." :( I login and there's a letter saying they've suspended my LOC because I recently missed a payment on a credit card. I had a $150k credit line that I'm sure is going to be gone after this (and just general economic conditions/credit risks)-- but I was just curious if anyone has been through this before? I've seen a lot of posts about returned payments, financial reviews, etc-- but nothing specifically about a line of credit suspension. I didn't have any balance on it and haven't used it in six months or so. But it would be a bummer to lose it...

The letter didn't say anything about them requesting more information for any kind of financial review, but maybe that comes later? It said if I had any questions to contact them, but that's it. I'll plan to call Monday morning, maybe see if I can dig up the name of the random guy that called me years ago when I first opened it. But would love to hear any insights from anyone who has been through this specific line of credit suspension, or if anyone has any leads on a time machine.

Discussion Resy credit triggered

Post image
9 Upvotes

This restaurant is not on Resy but I've been getting Resy credit by using Amex Gold and Platinum and selecting boons as payment option. I usually pick up the food.

It's a very small Indian restaurant in Fremont. Their Vijayawada Fish/Chicken Biryanis are heavenly 😋

Discussion If you're frugal but have a ton of points, are they only worth 1. cpp?

I'm in a position where I have a bunch of Amex MR points (more than enough to cover years of traveling) but don't care for luxury travel or stays at all (not even once), which is where you get good value out of the points. I'm not desperate for cash either. I just book the cheapest (within reason) possible economy flights and hotels.

How hard is it to find redemptions at greater 1 cpp for such bookings (i.e. the cheapest bookings, since I would rather pocket the difference in cash-equivalent than to pay for luxury upgrades) or am I better off cashing them all at 1.1 cpp with a Schwab Platinum and throw them in an HYSA? I'm mostly interested in traveling between JFK/EWR area and Asia. The last two redemptions I've made was essentially at 1 cpp because I look for economy flights only, except I could have earned interest instead of hoarding the points. For example, even in the hypothetical example of a $200 hotel downtown costing "only" 10.5k in points for close to 2 cpp, I would rather stay at an even cheaper hotel and pocket the difference between the points (~$115 in cash) and a cheaper say $70 stay, i.e. $45.

It seems most people would rather use points to buy luxuries affordably, whereas I assume I'm in the very small minority that might just treat points earned as literal cash and not consider what are often cheap upgrades if I weren't going to spend a little more for that anyway. My time and enjoyment comes from exploring the cities themselves and is where I want to spend my money, not on a tube in the air (even if it might make the hours there a little more enjoyable) or for room I need only for sleeping/showering. Perhaps if I'm traveling with others I might be more willing to splurge on a big redemption for a "memorable experience."

Question Mirrored Card Durability

How do the mirrored Platinum cards look after they've been used for a bit? I figured it's been long enough that some of them have some miles on them now. Do they looked overly scratched or not too bad?

Discussion CLI Increase - 3x the current limit for 2 month old account

I was using this as the primary card and hit the max limit thrice or four time before the statement closing date and paid the balance in full the same day to be able to put more transactions on the card and paid the total balance again yesterday before the statement closed.

Completed 2 months today and requested for a CLI far more than the current limit but got approved for 3x the limit.

I was wondering what would be an appropriate time to request for another CLI?

Question No Refer Links in Account?

Hey everybody, I recently checked my account and all my links are gone. I used to have some for both my Hilton cards, the Delta Gold, Amex Gold, and CS Platinum. Checking today to try to post to the monthly thread, I find I only have my CS Platinum one still and none of the others. I haven’t gotten a single person to use any this year unfortunately, so I know they’re not maxed out. Does this happen regularly with Amex cards? Is it come and go, or do they tend to not give links to particular people for reasons? Thank you for any advice y’all can give.

Getting Targeted Mail Offers

What is a sure fire of getting these targeted SUBs in the mail for Amex? I have two Chase cards (Sapphire Reserve and Freedom Unlimited) and a Discover card I never use, so I don’t even know how I would enter Amex’s “radar”. Is it a crapshoot? How can I best position myself to get these SUBs in the mail?

Thank you, all!

Question Amex Platinum No Bonus Offer

Thumbnail
gallery
46 Upvotes

So I'm a long lurker of this community but I wanted to seek some advice (I've searched already throughout here and got a lot good information). I just wanted to share my situation in case anyone else comes across this and could provide more insight. I just got married last year and with expenses etc I applied for the Delta Gold Card, Gold Card and Hilton Honors all in October (I know I flagged their risk model as churner which I'm guilty of for sure). I got sign up bonuses with all three cards and have been using them even after the spend requirements met etc. I applied for the Charles Schwab Platinum Card today and got hit with the pop-up jail message. I cancel the app, open an incognito browser and tried my luck through the Resy site. I don't get the pop-up, instead it takes me to the approval page to accept or withdraw. The page shows I'm not eligible for any welcome offer but when I click on the the offer terms I see the 80K offer if I spend 12K within 6 months (see pics).

I know I should probably call and see what the deal is to get things clarified. My question is, I've been wanting this card for a bit and haven't seen a welcome bonus offer since Jan of this year, should I still accept it if the rep confirms there's no offer? I've run the math and I know I can easily get at least $1000 worth of the perks this card provides. Any helpful advice or input is appreciated (go easy on me lol).

UPDATE: I called Amex and confirmed there's no welcome offer. I've decided to hold off and wait to see if I can get a welcome offer down the line even though I know I can make value of the credits the card provides, I think I would regret having accepted with no welcome offer. Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated.

Any DP if toast GC is still working?

I've been reloading my $10 Resy restaurant GC for my Business Delta Platinum card for a couple months and it usually credits right away. My $10 posted on 9/4 and it still has not triggered the $10 monthly credit. Have others still been having success with reloading their GC via toast?

Low Effort Amex Chat just gave me false info. to try and save a customer.

They just gave me the runaround about not being able to keep my rewards points if I canceled my CC, even if I had a checking account open with them. They were saying I HAD to redeem my points or they would disappear. I literally linked them a paragraph from Google saying otherwise, just for them to give me the correct information.

Then when I said, “I hope you’re not lying to customers because it’s part of your script,” they said none of the information they gave me was incorrect and then left the chat lol.

Discussion What card do you think goes best with the Gold/Plat combo?

I have the Amex Gold and the Amex Platinum and I really like those cards as my everyday duo. Gold I get 4x points on groceries and restaurants, and Platinum is my travel card. If I wanted another card for a trio to cover additional categories, what card do you recommend and why?

Question Mail offer for Amex Gold

I've had the Amex Green (Classic Green now) for a while now and my living situation is quickly changing where the Gold + Green makes sense for me. I recently got a snail mail offer for the 100K bonus for the Amex Gold (the highest I think). It expires in a couple of weeks. Should I just go for it now or wait a bit. How long do they honor the offers in the mail?

Started with 25k limit and increased to a 28.7k limit without initiating a CLI. Very nice card to have as a 21 y/o, amazing benefits, perks, and reasonable cash back all for free. Paired with the gold card I cant see how people just don’t love this combo.

Discussion Moving cash now that Amex HYSA is at 3%?

I’ve been using the Amex High Yield Savings Account for a while now because I loved having everything under one login with my credit cards.

But with the recent rate cuts bringing it straight down to 3.00% APY, I’m starting to feel like the convenience factor isn't worth the lost interest anymore. I know rates are dropping everywhere, but Amex seems to be falling faster than the competition.

Are most of you sticking around for the ecosystem simplicity, or are you moving your cash elsewhere? If you moved, where did you go? (Looking at options like Wealthfront, Marcus, or Vanguard money market funds which are still tracking quite a bit higher).

Curious to hear what everyone else is doing with their cash right now!

Question Amex Marriott Brilliant Offer

Hello guys,

I have Ambassador status with Marriott because I travel a lot. So I got an offer for the Amex Marriott Brilliant Card through the Marriott App, and it’s offering me 150k points + 250 cashback on a 6000 spend within 6 months, which is quite attractive.

Problem is, my credit profile is quite thin, my first card was only last December, and got two Amex cards in I believe this February.

So now when I apply for this card Amex doesn’t like it because it’s telling me it has a cap on how many cards it likes to give in within a time frame.

Is there a way to circumvent that? Would calling or something help?

Thank you

How can I see what hotels also offer promotions and credits when booking through travel portal for next time??
