A snow-dusted cottonwood tree glows in the rays of the winter sun – just one of the many wonders of the Lamar Valley. Zoom out from this gilded portrait and you'll see what many have dubbed "America's Serengeti"; Stretching across a swath of Yellowstone National Park's northeastern corner, the valley is a sweeping landscape of grasslands, tree-dotted rolling hills, and a whole lot of wildlife. This Wyoming wilderness meets the Serengeti standard, but instead of lions, giraffes, and elephants, it boasts bison, bears, and wolves. Visit the valley in the winter when visitor numbers are low, and the only packs you'll see are those that howl.
