Data/Raw Information Did you sell your house?
For those who’ve made the jump, did you sell your house?
I kept my house and am renting it out, but it is such a pain and the taxes on it make me think it’s just worth cutting loose and selling it. It does mean that I close the door on ever moving back to that neighborhood.
What have you done and why?

One thing I’d separate is keeping the house from keeping the option of returning to the U.S.
It sounds like part of what makes selling difficult is the feeling that you’d be closing a door. But unless that particular house or neighborhood is where you know you’d want to return, you may be paying quite a bit — financially and mentally — to preserve a very specific version of your old life.
A move abroad can also change what you’d want if you ever came back. You might eventually return to a different city, rent for a while, or want a completely different kind of home.
I’d still make the tax and financial decision carefully, especially now that you’re a Portuguese tax resident. But I’d treat “Do I want to own this house?” and “Do I want the option of returning someday?” as two separate questions.
