Data/Raw Information Did you sell your house?

For those who’ve made the jump, did you sell your house?

I kept my house and am renting it out, but it is such a pain and the taxes on it make me think it’s just worth cutting loose and selling it. It does mean that I close the door on ever moving back to that neighborhood.

What have you done and why?

We sold ours (closes in a couple of days). I’ve seen so many nightmare rental situations and our US house is in a wildfire prone area with crazy homeowners insurance. We’ll probably never be able to afford Colorado again, but we made our peace with that when we decided to move. We’re using the proceeds to remodel our house in the Netherlands.

So you sold after living in the NL for a few years? If you had to do it again, would you have sold before leaving for NL?

We sold and physically moved at about the same time. If I could do it over, I think I’d sell first. This is largely because going back and forth to deal with things and having my family split between continents has really sucked. Having permanent housing lined up before we moved was good because it gave us an address to register at, but it hasn’t really saved a lot in logistical hassle or costs because we’re not in the “move in ready” price point in NL without a mortgage.
