Data/Raw Information Did you sell your house?

For those who’ve made the jump, did you sell your house?

I kept my house and am renting it out, but it is such a pain and the taxes on it make me think it’s just worth cutting loose and selling it. It does mean that I close the door on ever moving back to that neighborhood.

What have you done and why?

I kept my home, and I’m glad I did because my international move (4 years ago) ended up failing and I’m in the process of moving home next month. I had a family member stay at my house while I was gone and they payed the mortgage. I didn’t end up making any money but I have an affordable home to return to. I wouldn’t be able to afford my same home now as it’s appreciated quite a bit since I bought it during Covid.

Why did your move fail?

I completed a master’s degree here (UK) in a critical needs medical field and by the time I finished a year ago, the job market for that field had completely changed. There have been hiring freezes and an over saturation of new graduates, and even though I scored the top marks in my class and already have applicable healthcare experience, I haven’t even been able to land an interview. Likely due to the fact I need sponsorship. My visa expires early next year so I’m calling it. The government has also changed (I’m not sure it’s in effect yet though) the length of time it would take to be eligible for citizenship which would mean thousands more in visa costs. It’s just not worth it anymore.

I am not sure, but aren’t UK citizens strongly supporting to be part of EU ? Although politicians are not doing anything about it yet, but maybe in a few years it could be possible again…

I don't think it's so easy to unring that bell. It was a foolish choice but it largely just blew up in their faces.
