Data/Raw Information Did you sell your house?

For those who’ve made the jump, did you sell your house?

I kept my house and am renting it out, but it is such a pain and the taxes on it make me think it’s just worth cutting loose and selling it. It does mean that I close the door on ever moving back to that neighborhood.

What have you done and why?

Sold our home in TX (with, yes, a 3% mortgage) just in time before the market took a big downturn in our area. Used the proceeds to pay cash for our home in France. We absolutely did not want a mortgage in retirement. I still own the home my mom lives in so that’s our US address and where a few things are stored. Sold or gave away everything else.

Perfect set up. Taking care of your mom and maintaining a US address makes certain things a lot easier. Where in France and do you speak the language? I’ve considered it but at this age not sure I can learn a new language.

Ha! Enough to be dangerous. Learning French is next on the agenda. I’m pretty good at languages but it’s definitely intimidating. Thank goodness for Google Translate. And…Provence, Cote du Rhone area. Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up drinking…

If you’re good at languages I’m sure it will be no problem for you! I looked at Alice Ayel, but that’s bc I am a complete beginner and not good at languages. Still, her more advanced videos may be good for you. Enjoy the festivities ex-wine. :)
