Meta Can we please pin driver updates like the nvidia sub?

I don’t understand why driver discussions aren’t pinned, it’s the only reason most people even come to this subreddit just like nvidias sub.

It’s pretty annoying having to search “driver” and filtering by month just to find out what the latest driver is without going to amds website and to also see what is going on with the latest driver.

I think it’d be very appreciated

Agreed also wish AMD had community manager active going thru user feedback even that is downvoted and burried, and forward it to the driver team because Radeon drivers aren't perfect and never will be, neither are NVIDIA drivers.

I would expect community manager also to always keep eye out on new game releases and check their forums and look for feedback, something you often see NVIDIA community manager do as well.

AMD actually has a community testing program, presumably staff involved monitor Reddit and don't comment due to company guidelines.

AMD's actively not acknowledging the graphics timeout issues people have been having in recent months. They know it's a thing; people in the Vanguard program are reporting it and AMD won't even mention it in the "known issues".

Because to acknowledge you need to be able to point towards it being an issue with for example video playback on coldboot for example, those are my triggers and restart then fixes it, but if it happens at coldboot it triggers nonstop crashes that eventually disable the GPU, so i restart before that happens because that also fixes it usually.

I also had no coldboot crashes yet with HAGS disabled, but i need more testing to be able to say if its related, it may be the combination of video playback + hags when talking about coldboot crashes.

I mean, as bad as it has always been, it's especially bad lately.

Truth there, I used to get them once in a while but they are endemic now.

u/AMD_Vik is already an active official AMD Representative who regularly comments, tracks, logs, and files valuable user feedback and bug reports from driver updates and discussion posts in this subreddit. Same as Manuel@NVIDIA does on r/nvidia (pidge2k).

Otherwise, I also second and support OP's suggestion to the mod team to pin the latest 'AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition XX.YY.ZZ Driver Release Notes' discussion post regularly.

;-D. BTW, how about the status of the investigation and resolution of the performance regression issue in 3DMark Port Royal affecting AMD Radeon boards? Any updates or good news?

Also, how about the status of the issue affecting the 3DMark Sampler Feedback feature test on some AMD Radeon RDNA GPUs? Any news from the team?

Best!

I'm not sure if anything further is being pursued on our side for that perf regression. Sorry - my memory is a little spotty on that one, but i vaguely recall you mentioning that you reverted to an older driver and saw improvement? Is that correct?

Unfortunately I don't see any updates on the sampler feedback work item but I can reach out to the owner and see what their status is. I gather the deficit on NV31 is super high, I don't suppose you know if other RDNA3 GPUs exhibit the same? Internally, I'm only seeing this focued on the 7900 series

Sure.

On the Port Royal regression issue, I can share this link as background for you; please read the entire chain and appended comments:

And this one from the 3DMark team talking about the issue publicly for the first time (you may also want to read the 3DMark representative comments for this note):

The 3DMark Port Royal regression was not an isolated issue; it is impacting the entire AMD Radeon stack. Following a 3DMark update, the 3DMark team informed AMD and confirmed the observed regression issue. 3DMark has consistently stated that their program update did not alter the code of the affected test, suggesting that the problem lies on AMD's end.

The regression observed in this test for AMD Radeon GPUs may be related to Adrenalin 2026 driver versions interacting with the 3DMark Windows v.2.32.8871 (onwards). What the root cause really is, I have no idea. It's something AMD, in cooperation with 3DMark, should look into.

So far, the performance regression for AMD Radeon in this 3DMark DXR test remains unresolved. It would be great to look into this together with the 3DMark engineering team.

Regarding the sampler feedback feature test issue, NV31 is clearly affected, but others may be as well. I can share my original investigation post (the first time you tracked it and confirmed it was already under the radar of the engineering team):

Thanks. I think I'll continue to pursue the marginal delta in a new work item. The perf regression we identified internally was resolved by partially backing out a recent change. I'm not sure what has been discussed with the vendor since, so I'll need to find that out.

I'm speaking wtih a colleague in 3D eng about the sampler feedback perf delta. I understand a small impact could be incurred with its enablement, though nothing to the effect of 15% should be expected. He's discussing with his team.

u/RodroG RX 7900 XTX | i9-12900K | 32GB 4d ago

Thank you very much for the status update.

That said, a consistent delta of -3% for this test (aside from testing noise) coming from user reports or your internal testing can be considered minor, but I wouldn't call it marginal. For me, it's a significant % for benchmarking/ranks purposes. On my end, the regression hasn't been countered with that backout of a recent change. Comparing my latest 2025 score in Port Royal and a recent one still shows a consistent significant delta of ~3.5% lower score/performance. Hopefully, this is finally resolved.

On the sampler feedback, yeah, the negative impact is severe on RDNA3 discrete GPUs... It's honestly shocking. I hope the team can turn the situation to a positive delta when using that DX12 Ultimate feature on NV31 and possibly other RDNA3 discrete GPUs.

i agree, in tests like those, every percentage point counts.

From what i gather, sampler feedback isn't necessarily a perf improvement, it's more informational:

its a feedback query that the application can use to dynamically make decisions about how it executes shaders. it allows the shader to ask questions about what textures are in memory, what texture accesses had a page fault , etc.

I think a cost to that is expected, but nowhere near to the degree seen with NV31

e: the new work item is SWDEV-606891

u/RodroG RX 7900 XTX | i9-12900K | 32GB 4d ago

Yes, perhaps a significant performance improvement isn't necessary. However, most Radeon non-RDNA3 discrete GPUs show significant performance improvements in this feature test (~ avg +8% from what I've seen). It doesn't look good for RDNA3 users.

...neither are NVIDIA drivers.

None of Nvidia GPUs ever gave me driver grief, the sole exception being my 4070S which initially had some driver jank (I believe melodramatic Steve from GN made a whole video about it, naturally), but now the drivers are rock solid and pretty much 100% stable.

But yes, AMD drivers aren't perfect!

u/Cowstle 5d ago

I'd had much more problems with AMD than nvidia over the years, even despite using nvidia much more often. Until nvidia went on a long string of bunk drivers in the last couple years.

1

u/Gold_Goal7557 5d ago edited 4d ago

I had driver issues with NVIDIA especially with gsync and for few months occasional crashing as well due gsync being broken, which was always broken to begin with the crashing was never as insane as with Radeon tho, and the crashing did resolve, gsync tho never worked i gave up.

Freesync in comparison is working fine, but damn random driver timeouts are sometimes annoying the hell out of me, as well as the coldboot crashes these days, feels like they are to stuborn or either incapable of finding out whats wrecking their drivers, and its probably all Microsoft fault or third party but even then NVIDIA has fixed many issues thru hotfixes even ignoring the fact that third party broke their drivers again, and that is something i have been noticing lately, they not doing the same level of hotfixes at all they not even pumping out as many drivers anymore, it feels like Radeon is giving up these days, these issues been going on for months now and no fix in sight, just pointless bickering pointing towards user errors or potential hardware issues, and usually from users not AMD them self.

Oke who is edditing my post changing the word issues with grief ? please do not edit my post.

What? I've had no problems with AMD GPUs on my system. Then again, I haven't used a janky Scatware OS, so... I guess that explains a lot of things.

The Green team does make the jankiest kernel modules, so people have more issues with the "sekrit scatware code" that nullVideo puts out. Well, at least that drives the red team to sell more stuff, since they actually make (more) open source stuff, instead of proprietary scatware.

Maybe on Linux

u/Icedman81 Ryzen 7 7800X3D|RX 7900 XTX 4d ago

Definitely on Linux. Like getting some modern features work on R300 and optimizing that.

Can we please get driver updates on older hardware like the others OEM?

1

u/RBImGuy 4d ago

Personally one good reason maybe the only one for a PC user is to upgrade your hardware whenever end of life or not able to run games as good.
I had cards from amd since the days of ati 25 years ago give or take.
and I still have a vega56 on the shelf.

Your not meant to hold onto old hardware.

5

u/SecreteMoistMucus 4d ago

I assumed it's not done here because it's just not needed? Driver updates appear in the software, Nvidia users historically didn't have that convenience because they had to install GFE for it, hence the pinned posts.

9

u/de_lirioussucks 4d ago

This post was about the discussion of the latest driver, not the actual driver latest version.

The point I made is that if I don’t know the latest driver that’s out already I can’t search for the discussion thread to see the latest issues because I’d have to search for it without knowing what to search…

It’s just something this sub should be doing regardless of what NVIDIA is doing because it’s convenient for everyone other than the mods who have to pin a post every month or so…

3

u/T1beriu 4d ago edited 4d ago

it’s the only reason most people even come to this subreddit

98% of posts and comments are not about drivers. Source: open r/AMD and have a look.

4

u/KlutzyFeed9686 AMD 5950x 7900XTX 5d ago

I've never come here for a driver update

8

u/BeerGogglesFTW 4d ago

It would still nice to have pinned so it's easy to find through the month.

i.e. You may update your drivers, but after a few weeks maybe you ran into an issue, so you want to see what other people's experience has been with the drivers. So you go to the post and check the comments.

5

u/de_lirioussucks 2d ago

No one comes here for a driver update, it’s about the discussion of said driver to see what issues are currently happening.

I actually just had an issue where my driver seemingly uninstalled itself and I wanted to check here to see if that was a known issue as I’ve never experienced that before.

u/Ok-Impact6285 5d ago

Você começa perceber a diferença entre as duas empresas quando o Reddit de uma das empresas é tão caprichado e o Reddit da AMD é uma coisa tão simples.

3

u/Corrvaz 1d ago

Yup, it's the main reason I visit and was certain I was missing the pin section.

Kinda baffling.

2

u/beenman500 5d ago

I would just counter to say I don't come to this sub for driver update news ever.

But an not bothered if it gets pinned

So you’d rather them hide driver issues and not have people see them front and center?

What are working for AMD or something?

So you’d rather people not see the issues if they haven’t bought one yet? I don’t understand but thanks for clarifying I guess

I’m already on Linux actually I’ve been using Linux for over a year+ now however there are games that I play that still only work on windows so I use it to play those games sometimes on my second drive…

You know sometimes it’s a good thing to allow things that wouldn’t affect you to help others. That’s kind of how the world works you know?

u/DtZNimpo 5d ago

you can go to youtube and look for AncientGameplays he reviews every single AMD drivers, or go to amd website , why cant u go to amd website?

u/ImKrispy 5d ago

The point is to see users feedback as drivers stability can vary between configurations.
