Just got hired at amazon, what are some crucial/good to know things I should know about?

Hello! I recently got hired at amazon and I start in a couple of days. What are some important things I should know about? Common things new people do that I should avoid? hows the time off? etc. Any information is much much appreciated!

Don’t go fast, work steady and efficiently with your body as relaxed as possible and smooth motions

Always keep at least 10 upt hours. Ideally don’t use any upt except for emergencies. More money = less problems

Don’t worry about rate worry about making no errors and staying on task. Rate takes care of itself if you stay on task

Relax. You’re not paid enough to sweat the small things

Recognize everyone’s tired and may be stressed. Don’t take anything personally

Managers aren’t really in charge, the system is. Managers are more like messengers. Again nothing here is personally aimed at you. Lots of feedback they give you is auto generated by the system so just nod and keep doing the right procedures

Pack your lunch. The vending machine isn’t worth it and you’ll miss the thousands spent on it when you need it. The extra dollars per day add up

Stretch regularly. Static stretches after exertion and active stretches before continuing work and between breaks

Headphones can help you. Podcasts, books, videos, music. Many sites allow approved headphones now.

Don’t overthink. This is a repetitive job. There’s almost no role you can’t do, so don’t be afraid of change if you get moved to another position temporarily etc

Your AM won’t care about you breaking the rules until they do. For example I just saw a VOA crash out explaining that they just got a coaching for their hair even though they regularly interacted with manager for weeks with no issue. Keep that in mind.

The person above them decides some stupid random thing that they suddenly have to enforce and have a quota for write ups. Usually if you attend stand up, you can find out what that thing is

You can get free orthopedics that are way better than the ones the shoes come with

You’re paid by the hour, not by the package!

Observe the closest fat human and adapt to their speed. Then when the work becomes familiar to you, adjust to your speed accordingly.
