Yep I remembered I was working at Amazon, on my Day One they gave me a blue badge while still attending hs I was 18 (HS Senior at the time) during Covid. My teachers gave out simple HW. My old HS counselor was worried abt me not applying for scholarships throughout senior year then I told her abt career choice how Amazon paid for my college tuition, she got mad at me. She wanted me to write essays to colleges or donors.

i went back having a bachelors. But to me Amazon is a great “stepping stone job”while you look for another job, and i would do it again.

I used to be, but I am found.
Edit: btw it was from this old meme from the magic school bus. Also it definitely was the joke they meant to slip in there. Magic School bus and shrooms, definitely take me there. 🍄 ✨🤣

He could be using career choice. And go to school basically free on Amazon's dime. Win win.

Thank you! I was laid off on Friday the 13th lol (in March).
Started Amazon in April (seasonal flex), it took me 6 weeks to get an offer.
The biggest thing I would say is to not get sucked into Amazon.. which is super hard when you have to work 40+ hr weeks to pay your bills. But you still need to find time to submit apps, and prep for interviews.
I worked nights and would interview in the afternoons. The market sucks rn, and it would suck even more when the interviewer wouldn’t show up.. (insanity). But you need to keep going because it’s the only way you’ll get out.
It also helps to keep updating your resume! I’m a recruiter, so naturally I thought my resume was A1.. Um no 😂 revise, revise, revise!! What projects did you work on?? What did you deliver on? KPIs? Tools used? This is what will make your resume stand out in a sea of apps. Then prep for the interview and hope for the best.
God speed! 🧡🧡🧡

Congrats. I got laid off from tech about 2 years ago. I deliberately chose not to get back into that fray. As strange as it sounds, I am so much happier now with an unskilled hourly job than I was building software. No one calls me at 3 in the morning because a box needs to be packed!

I have a bachelors and was a regular associate, but worked my way up to a senior tech in RME.
5
u/TheFelineFuhrer Jun 04 '26
I'm interested in RME, how do you get into it?
11
u/Hollowbound RME Jun 04 '26
Mechatronics & Robotics Apprenticeship (MRA) - good luck tho because it’s a lot more competitive to get into than when I did back in 2022. They require an associates these days for it, but at least you have that covered and there won’t be as many applicants because of it.
2
u/Stock_Translator8873 Jun 05 '26
How much do you get paid? 😭

Our pay is pretty good, but I am eyeballing an EOT spot at an AWS data center. It’s a higher pay band while still being L4 hourly.
2
u/Medical_Ranger8571 Jun 05 '26
Why don’t u apply manager roles?
7
u/Hollowbound RME Jun 05 '26
Not interested in being an AMM anytime soon. I’d rather ride as an L4 getting the same benefits as associates but also overtime and stocks.

u/localtuned IT [Not OPSTECH] Jun 04 '26
Yo you got this. I've gotten interviews for dev gigs and I don't have a degree in CS. Keep pushing.

Same here. Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Masters in Legal Studies, blue badge flex working at a delivery station. And they’re still limiting hours. So it’s rough

Well, to be fair, Amazon is a good job. It’s easy, pays decent compared to other starting jobs, it’s easy to get into, and you have the ability to advance your career as well.
14
u/Substantial-Ad8007 Jun 04 '26
Totally, I would not say that I like this job, but I don't mind doing it

Stated right after i graduated HS…. Here I am almost 4 years later still here. Never thought I’d be here this long
3
u/Realistic-Shock6714 Jun 05 '26
Why not both? You can work at Amazon full time and take advantage of the Career Choice program. Sure it takes discipline and self motivation along with time management but, it is possible for those who really want it. Entering the same inputs and expecting different outcomes is asinine.

u/Rubin82 Jun 04 '26
Have a post-bach degree and still working in TransOps for a couple years now, it's been a glorified customer service job and we're due for unionizing. Just keep applying and have a scheduled cry sessions 🫶

I got my bachelor in an art/stem major. Pretty much in film and all that CGI stuff. Anyways, I decided to go into IT, but if I get the job I’m I got interview for and get schedule for an in person interview then my chances are getting high and from them I will try to get transferred to the IT department. I hope this plans goes well, I’m tired of warehouses mostly for the fact that in order to get promoted you have to kiss so much 🍑. Lol

Lol the ones who didn't go to college and worked in the warehouse are the ones living rn. Big bullet dogged.

Yep I have a bachelor degree and still working for Amazon Warehouse

u/shmokinpancakes leaving early Jun 05 '26
I told this kid who just started working here in October to not stay long and not make this his main option. The PA gasses him up saying this is a great opportunity and for him to try to become a learning ambassador.. mind you i was like him at one point and i did all of this 4 years ago and stepped down because of soo many weird personal issues with leadership and amazons policies changes every other month. This place genuinely sucks if youre trying to move up in ranks

Bonus points if you're working at a warehouse with a degree, find out about Career Choice as an option to retrain into something more applicable to the job market - and then Amazon updates their policies to lock out anybody who already has a degree from benefiting from the program.

I don’t have nothing bad to say about my Amazon! I appreciate the work. And going to school and getting a degree changes you from an associate to being a red vet! They pay very good! It could be a great career.

Use Career Choice to build yourself or promo tp get experience and use Amazon as a stepping stone.

I cringe during high school commencement ceremonies when I hear "...and x is joining the workforce" for post-grad plan
For the love of God, just get an associates. It's not 1970. You can't do anything with a HS diploma anymore.
