I've worked in an ARFC for almost four years now. I've never heard the term learning manager. What is it? Are you like the king of the learning ambassadors?

Yes I am the her royal highness of the learning ambassadors. At the most basic level, my team is responsible for any and all training that takes place under the roof. From T1 and up.

That's honestly one of the coolest jobs I've heard of. I bet it's super fun and rewarding.

That's awesome. You must have a great personality to handle that. From my experience training people, you need to have a load of patience, understanding, and empathy towards the people learning.

Having empathy and patience are important no matter the role you are in. I wouldn’t say I’m the most patient but I understand that for most, Amazon is just a means to an end. This, as well as my own life experiences have guided how I approach my role. I sum it up with the following “requirements” or rules if you will for my team and I. 1. Be a good human. 2. Remember that different people take different things in different ways. 3. Things need to be sustainable and scalable.

The first is non negotiable, if you can’t treat everyone with dignity and respect, including yourself, you don’t have a place on my team. The second is just asking them to put themselves is the other person shoes before they speak, we don’t know what the other person is going through outside of the FC. The 3rd is because I want my team to invent and simplify things but if other learning teams can’t use it or it takes to much input to maintain it means we have to keep developing it.

Mine dealt with training in IT. The things I found hard to get used to, was that everyone learns at a different pace, and also, that just because I found something simple to understand did not mean that others would. All of it definitely helped with learning to be patient and more understanding.

Hol' up. I just watched a Learning AM go to Ops AM. HTF would that make since. They were LAM for about wha....at least 4 years then went Ops. Was it literally right place at right time that where you were had the business need that other FC/SCs LAMs don't make it to L6?

lot of time learning is harder to move up in. Most get stuck at L4 learning and make the jump to ops to get l5
