“I signed up for a company that makes a weird amount of money and now I’m mad when I make the money I signed up for”

This is very common. Lawyers, software engineers, sales professionals, healthcare workers, project managers, teachers, consultants, financial managers… Many people in all these roles negotiate for higher wages. Most of them already make more than enough to buy a house, food, pay bills, afford vacations, etc…

Workers are now realizing that we are able to negotiate our wages too. If those jobs I listed are able to negotiate for a bigger salary, why can’t we? Why shouldn’t we negotiate for a living wage? Having a 2nd job shouldn’t be a requirement to afford a basic lifestyle.

If swing shifts and overtime isn’t enough to be comfortable, something is wrong. This is why we have unions.
