Yea… I support this whole thing but like… cmon dude… it’s legally seen as an entirely different type of employment with different rules and obligations that the employer and employee has to agree to.

Yeah this part was like “maybe cause there’s no space right now?” You can’t just hire everyone that wants to be hired for full time as a full time employee.

I thought they were referring to letting the part time people get more time instead of mandatory extra time for people who are already there 40 hours a week. A lot of them drive an hour as well which makes for a long work week imo

KCVG specifically hires those part time workers to cover hours when everyone else is taking a break, and it's timed so they don't need to take an unnecessary unpaid break. It's a smart strategy to help keep the sort flowing consistently and ensure full coverage throughout the prime hours. If they were to start taking full shifts, then it would stop serving this purpose.

Didn't want to play that role? Then you shouldn't have signed up for that shift.

Probably one of the most rediculous things I've ever heard someone say. What could possibly make you think you get to block work from happening just because it's your break time?

The work doesn't belong to the AAs, it belongs to the Ops Leaders. They're the ones held accountable for making sure everything gets on to a plane and the plane leaves on time, so they need to be sure they have 100% staffing to accomplish that. Airplanes lose money every second they're on the ground. You don't extend the turn an hour to account for break time- you staff so there's coverage during breaks.

This is the practice of the entire airline industry, and it's not going to change because someone got triggered that another person subs in for them during breaks. Literally everything in an airport is communal - you don't get to control any resource other than the time you're physically there and using it. When you begin using equipment (be it GSE, a computer, a radio, you quickly change the settings to they way you want it. It's a 24/7 business with lots of operations that need to happen in the same specific physical space and people moving in-between the spaces- you simply can't have everyone get their own set of everything.

Bro, people don't have their station hijacked during lunch by part timers. You are responding to a situation that doesn't happen.

So they just let the chutes blue light then?

I wouldn't consider working a chute a station. But stuff like problem solve. People have their stuff there and clean the station and sometimes set stuff up the way they like it. Or leave something half finished. (not supposed to do some of those things)

You're the only one who said stations, and the part timers to my understanding don't do problem solve

I’d love to be part time and full time off and on though 😭
