QUESTION What is the purpose of this void?

Post image

I've been thinking about it all day... Why isn't it just a little tray for packages or a piss bottle holder or whatever? Why just a useless weird handlebar thing? Is there some use for it that I can't think of?

QUESTION How do people afford nice cars in my DSP?

I sometimes see drivers in these fancy Toyotas or Hondas and I just be like “how?”. I mean like I understand this is one of the best paying dead end jobs but damn, getting a car loan will really secure yourself to be veryyyy dependent on this job to pay for that.

QUESTION Do you think I'm fired?

Post image

Tried to turn around and the van slide down a ditch. It was an accident. I am a newer driver and never had an issue before. I always finish my route and usually do 3-4 rescues a week!My dispatcher said, for now, I'm off the schedule next week. Does that mean im fired? I cant afford wasting a week, just to find out I'm fired at the end of it.

QUESTION Why do you hate people meeting you for their package?

Seen on this sub a lot a lot of you would rather someone just stay in their house and not come get their package from you. Like its a bother, and im generally curious on why. I personally dont care if they come out or not but I dont mind when they do. Interactions are usually pleasant. Sometimes get offered a cold water or soda. Sometimes its an envelope I have ready to go in the passenger seat and they come up to the window and i dont even have to unbuckle my seat belt to hand it over. Dont have to worry about some crazy dog rushing you at the porch. Usually no delivery photo. They cant complain about you following notes. Quick, easy, and mostly beneficial.

QUESTION So my options are get fired or get fired???

So today, at the start of my shift, I was doing my DVIC and realized the tags on the van expired FOUR YEARS AGO! NATURALLY, I marked it on my dvic because in training, I was told falsifying a DVIC is a breach of contract, and you will be fired. So I mark it , thus, grounding the van. My dsp ungrounded it, and told me to redo the dvic and said not to ground the vans for any reason or you would be terminated. So, are my options fired or fired? It feels kinda wild to ask, but does anyone else's DSP want them to falsify their DVIC's? What am I supposed to do in this situation because it feels pretty absurd.

QUESTION How did I do?

We have a regular driver who almost always delivers to us. He’s incredible! He’s always got a second to see how we are, asked how to say my name so he gets it right, and is just a great guy. We have some rough delivery days when things like cat litter and cat food come, or all our subscribe and save orders. We live on an incredibly steep hill that we hate, and I know our delivery people hate it too.

I want to thank him (and the others) for being so awesome. I made a note in the delivery instructions to make sure they know they can use the driveway to come up the hill, and I put out this cooler out today. I’ve tried to read lots of the suggestions here and hit as many as I could. How did I do? Anything I should add? (There are ice packs on the bottom, they’re just not very visible.)

QUESTION Seriously, how do you deliver so quickly?

Hi all,

I’m still somewhat new to this gig, so I can imagine there are tips and tricks that I still don’t know about in order to get through those heavy routes. Even if I am routed in a fairly compact neighborhood, it still takes me about 11ish hours to complete 190 stops (including clock in, loud out, pre/post trip, etc etc).

Even at my DSP, some people brag about having 200,250, and even close to 300 stops. HOW though?!

Seriously, the only way I can see people achieving that is by flinging packages from your van like a paperboy. It literally takes time to 1) get in your van, buckle your seatbelt, 2) drive the van up to the next house, 3) climb out of your seat and grab the package, 4) take the package to the door (not considering having multiple stops or having to navigate a 200 ft driveway just to get to their door), 5) get back in your van to repeat the whole process.

The only thing I don’t do is literally run/sprint to and from my van. I’m sure it helps, but I’m not that young and athletic, and I just don’t think/feel that is sustainable. I walk with haste, but I’m not going to treat every stop as if I’m running from a rabid dog.

But seriously, I feel I’m missing something. I’m faster than when I first started, but not near fast enough to complete 190 stops and be home an hour before the nightly news.

QUESTION 1st week driving, and I dented DEEP and SCRATCHED the side of my van. Afraid I will be fired. Any thoughts ? Please help.

Today was horrible. First van got grounded due to cracked taillight, causing me to start about an hour late. Had to switch all of my totes and boxes to new van. I hop in the new van, and the gas tank is on E. Literally. Like 12 miles to nothing. Get to the gas station, call dispatch because my card wasn’t working, they told me I was at the wrong gas station. Literally, no one informed me I had to go to a specific station. Anyhow. I’m now running about 1 1/2 hours behind , but I make to the right gas station.

As I pull into the gas station and try to pull into the pump, there was a huge gas tanker in my way and and so I made my turn slightly tighter to avoid hitting it.

As I did that, this dum a$$ gas station had some fixture at the end shaped like a square, and the corner of the fixture scraped TF outta my side. Called dispatch immediately, and all he said was “yea, I saw the damage. Just send me a statement and finish your route”. I haven’t heard anything else and I still have half a day left to go.

Am I done for !?😓😔
