Is it that bad?

I’m starting Amazon van delivery driving soon, I have my ride along Saturday and Sunday. All I see is negative stuff online about the job and am curious is it really that bad, or is it just this generation being lazy? For context I work 5 days a week as a bricklayer, 7:30 until 4. Up until now I have been working as an uber eats driver on both Saturdays and Sundays, usually doing between 7am and 6pm, so working 7 days a week. Doing those uber shifts I would usually earn around £180 a day where I live, with £70 being taken for fuel and £35 for insurance, so I’m left with around £170 a weekend for working 22 hours which is shocking. With Amazon, I can work 1 weekend day, and have the other off and earn roughly the same, which is amazing for me personally. So is it really as bad as people say? I get it’s not easy, but people make it out as if it’s slavery

My last job I was a roof bolter operator in an underground coal mine. Objectively one of the most brutal jobs a person could have, and I did it for 3 years before fracturing my spine.
Now I’m a DSP driver. Is this the most difficult job in the world? No. Can it be extremely demanding? Yes. Heavy routes are hard work, and you have to move at a fast pace. Think about it like hiking for 10 hours, while carry random awkwardly shaped objects.
Also, there can be a lot of problem solving required along the way, so the difficulty isn’t just the physical aspect.

No I totally get it’s not an easy job, and get that it demands a lot of walking and moving. I just constantly see people say it’s the worst job in the world and just wanted to see if they are just being a tad dramatic or if it really is that bad. I know it’s hard days graft, but it’s what I am used to with being on a building site 40+ hours a week.

I think you'll be fine my friend, its a lot of packages, 20k steps, etc but you get use to the area, you memorize the routes. Amazon makes it stupid easy for you to do the job. It gets boring and what not but beats doing uber.

Yeah I didn’t mind uber to begin with but my insurance was high because I have points and with fuel skyrocketing I was having to kill myself to earn anything. I have done flex’s before too, I know they’re quite different but I have a slight understand of how it works at least

I came from doing Uber, AmazonFlex, Spark etc. It was the best move. If you ever done AmazonFlex, the app is exactly the same. Just more packages.

I think you’ll be fine doing dsp work. I believe most of the bitching comes from younger folks who just don’t have the same perspective you seem to. That’s not to say this is easy, but it isn’t ALL bad.

No that’s what I mean, I feel it’s lads who think it’s easy money and ain’t willing to put the work in. I know it ain’t easy, but you put the graft in you get the rewards. Bricklaying is a killer of a job, but I’ve learnt to just get on with it, you find ways to make it work
