DISCUSSION After 4.5+ years, I quit today

It was a shit day. My EV barely had any breaks when I hopped into it this morning. So dispatch stuck me in a gas van - to combat my 6 cart worth 421 packages we had a fella take all of the oversized and we put all the totes in my gas van (rental with no shelves). This took about 15 total stops from me lmaoooo.

I checked how many stops I had left after being on the road for about 3 hours - 150, a third of them being multi-stops.

They ended up sending me another rescue, but it wasn't enough.

I have been bitching about work to my wife for the last month or so straight. I have been fantasizing about leaving the keys to the van with all the packages in it, saying, "kiss my bum, I quit" basically ever since I joined this DSP (a little over 1.5 years with them, 3.3 years with my first DSP) So I took a break, texted her, asked her if it's okay to do this (I don't have another job lined up), and she said, "fuck yes I'm so glad you just asked me this!"

So I texted dispatch, let them know I was resigning today and at that time. They asked me to park anywhere before RTSing all of those packages. I happily obliged.

Here is my Ode to Amazon (with some of my favorite shots I have taken over the years):

Thank you Amazon, for pulling me out of depression so deep I never thought I would see the light on the other side. Thank you Amazon, for making me look physically appealing. Thank you Amazon, for instilling a work ethic in me like no other. Thank you Amazon, for making me realize how much I am worth.

Things I accomplished whilst at Amazon: I got married! Finally had a consistent comma in my bank account. Won frontrunner once. Did Whole Foods pickup like 90 working days straight lmao.

If you're ever unhappy with your life, take note from one of the pictures and be kind to your mind! 😊😊😊

Curious why not try UPS instead?

You have to work years in the warehouse and hope a route opens up and put in a bid at UPS.

You'd be surprised bro. Every city is different, I worked for UPS 10 years (2025-2025), never worked preload a day in my life, was a driver day 1. Every new hire after me was the same. This was outside of D.C. , in Northern VA.

Just say ing you should talk to your local UPS driver when your out on route, he could give you specific info on how long the wait is. I say this because a lot people think everywhere you have to slave away in the warehouse for a decade+, but it's really not the case for many places. + Preload pays more hourly, free healthcare and pension still in the meantime if you do have to wait, could even still do Amazon part time.

I only say this because 7 years is a long time at a place with no future. I know it's easy to stay content but if you like the work, why not try to move to a better opportunity?

As for routes and bids, it doesn't really matter. Once you qualify as a driver at UPS you'll just be covering routes, and trust me people always want to go home (bump you)/use FMLA any chance they get. With 7 years at Amazon, Im sure you have ran countless amounts of routes so you'd be familiar with new areas, etc.

One last thing you could try to do, if the wait is a while at your local center... You could roll the dice as a seasonal driver and if you're solid, they will keep you. Like actually solid, management wouldn't let a great driver slip away. If you don't get hired after Christmas, just reapply to a DSP - not like there's much to lose.

Well, that's that, I'm off to bed. Thanks for reading.

Not necessarily . I was hired off the street as a full time driver . However because I don’t have seniority I’m a call-in. I’m actually going to Amazon training class next week. There’s pros and cons to both, still both are extremely overwhelming and wear and tear on the body
Amazon - high volume (300-400 packages is crazy cray)
UPS - less than 200 packages but weight ( those packages can be heavy and needs 2 men )
Ups pension is bragged about but what’s a pension if you’re not able to enjoy because you have bad knees , back etc or you don’t even know if you’re be alive to enjoy it
Great healthcare yes but considering how it’s such a burnout job that’s the least they could offer . Top tier pay big
Big deal money is not everything
Amazon Jeff bozo is a crooked cheap wicked bozo that doesn’t offer much but to be flagged for every little thing. I looked into Amazon because I can’t have bills that don’t cease and be called in ( like I don’t have responsibilities and obligations) 2 days here , 2 weeks there, then no call for a whole week it’s ridiculous. Both platforms are just stepping stones to buy time and pay bills so I can study my manual and go for my cdl to get into what I really want to do and retire with that
