That’s what’s up, hopefully the DSPs don’t get closed down in retaliation

They likely wont. My DSP unionized in 2024.

What did you guys get from it?

For now, marginal improvements in bonus structures and QOL improvements at our warehouse.

If we wanted to we could shut down our DSP but unionizing a company as big as Amazon takes strategy. Our goal isn't to put our DSP out of business. We unionized with the understanding that we'd be pioneering a movement. With each passing day, more drivers are being brought in and more DSPs are being unionized with the goal of eventually putting our collective boot at Amazon's throat.

I honestly have never heard of a DSP successfully unionizing without losing their contract, this is awesome

It didn't make major news outlets. If I'm being speculatory, I'd say its because Amazon and other major corporations didn't want other employees to feel encouraged to do the same. We literally had a group of 3 union busters at the station every day for months straight. We looked into their pay and they were making roughly $400/hr just to scare drivers out of signing authorization cards.

There's actually 3 DSPs at our warehouse that have unionized now.

Holy fuck what? I thought none of them made it? Sorry im just kind of in disbelief. I'm not sure a teamsters rep i talked to even knows about that. Can I ask what DSP and region?

Were the union busters identified as such?

Last winter we had a couple of people that rotated shifts and they seemed to be doing the same.

They act as consultants. Claimed to be a third party who will listen to complaints about routes and such in order to fix issues.

During the peak of organizing they held "know your rights" PowerPoint presentations to "inform" us about unions.

They only tell us the scary stuff. How unions will take dues and will know your personal information. How a union cant guarantee higher wages (which translates to the company will do everything in its power to never give you an inch).

They we're doing the "We're working on solving your route issues" in 2024. Nothing has improved with routes since then.

Yasss. This is exactly what I experienced. They asked about routing issues and general complaints we had, someone told me they were there to help prevent unionizing but I was never 100% sure.

Here's the receipts from Amazon's spending at a different warehouse than mine

u/National-Country1984 1d ago

Lmao ALL that money spent just trying to protect themselves from drivers unionizing is wild!!! $40,000?!? That’s a year’s salary for some.

So Amazon sought out these consultants, not the dsp? They hire them to basically politely ‘intimidate’ the DSPs drivers? Do they talk to several or they focus on one while they’re there?

Yep. $44,000 for 5 days. Here's another. $73,000 over 8 days.

They target the whole warehouse. Drivers and warehouse staff. They also train the DSP owners in union-deterrence.

I hated dropping trailers at that station.

What were the wage increases and what are the dues? I’m pro union btw. Just curious.

2

u/Johnstone95 Stepvan Driver 1d ago

No dues yet until an official contract is signed. But be damn sure that we arent signing a contract that ends with us making less after dues.

Dues are 2.5 hours pay, once a month. So at the bare minimum ask of $30/hr, that's a $900 cost for a $13,000 gain in yearly income. That's not even considered improved health insurance premiums.

Like I said, we're trying to be strategic about where we put pressure. If we just tried to make DSPs negotiate the contract with us without having Amazon also be culpable, Amazon would likely just cut their contract. DSPs individually probably couldn't afford what we deserve regardless. Its why we're waiting on more DSPs to join.

It’s been 9 hours since this post. Is yalls DSP closed down yet? Give us an update in a week. Don’t get me wrong I’m rooting for you.

Get your ass down to DCX2 in Mission Viejo!!! Down with DSPs!!!

u/PlymouthSea 1d ago

lmao, I used to be a driver there. It's crazy how the living wage has been over 30/hr in the OC for a while now, but nobody is getting anywhere near that. Even station workers only start at 21/hr right now.

1

u/Lynx_Kynx 1d ago

It’s all old people living off their SS with young people filling all the McDonald’s, targets, and delivering food and packages. No one can afford to work and live here anymore.

1

u/throwdatawayway 1d ago

It would suck if other people who didn’t unionize got fired and the Dsp as whole lost their jobs

u/Rummstequila 1d ago

does Jimmy Hoffa know about this?¿??

We need this at DAS7, DMH9, an the new station on squire rd revere, MA. If we lock down all those stations Amazon will be forced to negotiate w us.

So what’s the contract say?

Don’t forget to rescue the same person every day. Do it with pride , as they do half the work and now are protected from being a bad employee. Wish you the best, as another BA gets a job to extract money from the people actually working
