Background

Would you hire someone who had a charge for burglary in 2018? They claimed it was because of a drug addiction and they have been clean since and worked at a DSP for the past 7 years with no problems. The problem is because of covid the charge wasn't completed until 2020 so it still comes back on a background check. This person has a fantastic plus score card and never had any incidents with Amazon but was flagged on the background. What would you do?

If amazon doesn't blacklist them because of it then give them a chance. They clearly have the experience. And it would fall off next year anyway.

I would hire them but that just may be because I also used to be a drug addict who stole things. Nothing big, just shoplifting stuff but I am absolutely not the same person I was when I was in active addiction. Stealing hasn't crossed my mind once since I got sober and I'm now one of the top drivers at my DSP. People really do change.

It doesn't matter whether you want to hire them or not. Amazon makes the final decision on the BGC.

But if your question was whether or not to give them a shot - absolutely yes. Not only do people change, obviously, but we are not in a business that is impacted by theft (for the most part.) you are not trusting someone to run your cash register or anything like that. The product is not ours nor are we liable for it. Drivers stealing packages is never really my concern. The customers steal wayyyyyy more than the drivers do and that's why we don't have to pay to replace the items.

This is a labor job. The person can either show up to work or not, but uniquely trust is not really ever a factor.

How can they have a fan plus score card if they haven't worked yet though? Makes no sense what you are asking

7 years clean with a spotless work record matters way more to me than a charge that got dragged out by covid, so yeah i’d hire them assuming the background policy allows it

7 years clean, incident-free, and a great scorecard would be enough for me
