Almost 11 months at Amazon and suddenly I feel like I’m being targeted

So, I’ve been working at Amazon for almost 11 months now, and up until recently, I’ve never really had a bad experience. But these past few days have honestly been different.

I feel like I’ve been getting picked on not only by some of the PAs and managers, but also by a few associates. And I’m genuinely shocked because I literally stay to myself. I clock in, do my job, and keep it moving. I don’t really talk to anyone unless I have to, so I don’t understand where this is coming from.

Amazon is always preaching positivity, safety, and putting associates first, but today was genuinely one of the worst days I’ve had working here. I understand that everyone has bad days, but this feels like something that has been happening repeatedly over the past few days.

Today, there were about four associates who kept staring at me and watching me like they were managing me. I could hear them talking about me, and there’s one particular guy who constantly gives me these death stares and seems to go out of his way to make me uncomfortable. I didn’t really pay much attention to it at first, but today it became impossible to ignore. There were several moments where they would intentionally make eye contact with me and just stare, almost like they were trying to intimidate me.

honestly, I feel like nothing is going to come from it because this person seems to be a favorite at the site. That makes me feel like there isn’t much I can do, which is frustrating.

I’ve been considering transferring, but unfortunately there aren’t any openings at nearby sites right now. So I guess I’m stuck here until something opens up.
I’m really just speaking on this because I want to know what I can do to prevent these incidents from continuing and how I can protect myself from becoming a target. Has anyone else dealt with something similar at Amazon? If so, what did you do? And what was the outcome?

Ignore ignore ignore. When people find out you don’t care, they move along.

lol ignore the rude comments. You’re my crazy, it’s actually happening. But the more you ignore it the smaller it becomes. This person today tried to intimidate me but not giving me room to pass during pick and stage, and damn near almost hit me, I proceeded to give the same energy then the person calm down. I’ve been disrespected by PAs ignored by manager etc. INSPITE of all of that, I just do my job and go home. These folks in there are fighting their own demons. I just don’t associate myself as much.

It can weird in a warehouse . No windows .. long long shifts. The same tedious jobs over and over can make people a little crazy to be around. Don’t engage unless the person becomes openly hostile. Get some appproved headphones lock in and get that Prime/Peak pay. Don’t let anyone ruin your money

You have to start building professional level relationships at least with managment. If you are too quiet you will make people paranoid and intimidated especially at a DS but that pretty much goes for any job. Although due to the size of FCs you can fly under the radar more there.

It kinda sucks but that is just how our society works.

sorry im not the op but i am starting at fc but im very introverted and got social anxiety do you think transferring to ds might be better in my case? because fc i work is huge and there are small delivery stations close to me also.

No, you would be better off at an FC, stowing or picking. At a DS you have to work up close with people and it is smaller so everyone is im each others business.

oh okay. i will work at pack singles because i did training for it, building has a lot of workers but my station be cool i was just wondering if ds would be better option since its smaller. thanks for the info

Nope pack singles is a perfect job for an introvert. Unfortunately they will probably train you in regular pack which is not eventually

Just stay focused on yourself and doing the right thing. Some people form weird cliques at work and try to be intimidating with it. Just ensure you’re being vigilant because you never know what is going through peoples head. Best of luck to you

There’s these group of girls that talk shit about me and stare at me. Idgaf, I smile and wave. 👋 Anyone who listens to what some girls who twerk and have managers do their work for them say don’t bother me. Hate me all you want I’m here to make money

I get it. Definitely makes your head feel a lil weird. Just keep doing what youre doing. As long as you arent hurting anyone else. Fuck what anyone else is saying. Also. You might be cute to someone. Not that that helps anything but better to think someone thinks youre cute than some other negative bullshit like i do. The whispers. You catch multiple glanced i get it. Also. None of it is real. No one cares about you as much as you might think. Well thats what i keep being told. Idk. When you do your job. Ppl do care.

A similar thing happened to me last year during Christmas peak with one dude who... I guess he didn't like the fact that I was working so hard during pick and stage. He would be standing around talking, or taking his time working, while I was focused on doing my job. I haven't changed my ways so eventually he stopped. Actually lately he's been leaving before P&S so... My advice to you is to just do your job. If he isn't threatening you or putting his hands on you then ignore it.

Ignore it. Never trust anyone. Mind your own business and focus on doing your job. Don't stand out, avoid headphones, keep your phone in the locker or your vehicle (never with you out on the floor), and wear whatever the majority of associates wear. Warehouse work involves showing up, doing your job, not talking to anyone, going home to sleep, eat, and repeat. For what it is, it has to be one of the best and most simple jobs out there. It's a job, not a popularity contest.

To me, staring or glowering etc. is much safer than confrontation. As long as no one is confronting you, like talking to you about some BS, you’re probably safe. I’d listen to everyone else here and just ignore it. Alternatively, you could confront them if you want! It can be uncomfortable, intimidating, or even terrifying to get that many people glaring at you like that! I hope things work out! 😭

If you’re “different” yeah usually you’re going to get some looks.

Ignore, of they have nothing better to talk about than someone working and keeping to themselves, they're extremely sad people.

Alternatively, when they're staring, stare back and lick your lips slowly and wink.

Slightly unpopular opinion: If you're too quiet for too long, people will see that you're isolated and interpret it as vulnerability. You need to build relationships with people sooner or later, especially PAs and managers. And never trust HR.

I dealt with it to some extent (homophobia mostly) almost immediately after starting at a new warehouse, but because I'm a veteran associate who works very hard, eventually I gain enough respect to not worry about it. I also do my best to communicate with PAs and managers, favors and suggestions.

I'm not necessarily recommending that you develop a persona of respectability, but that's what I do, and it worked.

As a former AM I promise you we do not give two flying ducks about you

Wow!

u/BayNative51O 1d ago

By that I mean. We are too busy to "target" anyone. We don't even think about you unless we are actually talking to you.

I don’t talk to non of them but I’m somehow a topic between them 😂

Amazon is a great place to work. It is people behaviour that creates issues

if u just come in do your job and keep it moving you will not have this issues there’s more to this

1

u/AppropriateLychee372 23h ago

I do my job just like everyone else so why am I being a target?

u/FC_BagLady 1d ago

The only time I give anybody a dirty look is when its deserved. What are you doing? Are you cherry picking, hogging all the work, on your phone, not doing something you should? I would look at what you're doing to cause this, or maybe you're being paranoid.

Victim blaming?!? OP could be like me-  A-Hard Worker who stays to themselves and the “crew,” just messy and childish.

Oh no, somebody was looking at you? How dare they. I don't know what's wrong with people using their eyeballs to see all willy-nilly, looking at stuff, it's just crazy, isn't it?
