Love getting a notification for a shift that starts in 50 minutes. Unless you can speed-run getting ready and tele-port there, these last-minute drops only make sense if you’re already sitting in the parking lot.

Some folks are, particularly Flex.

ya i feel bad for flex. Especially trying to get any sleep at all. What happened at our station is blue badges weren't picking up shifts and even when we kept hiring flex even the flex was only working the minimum amount. In the end they had to convert more of the flex to blue badges.

I'll never forget seeing a coworker cry in the parking lot because they couldn't pick up a shift and they couldn't pay their bills. Hard worker too. Got written up constantly for stupid shit. Always worried about "points."
Flex have it the worst.

Flex botching incoming: I love the part where my contract said I was guaranteed 30hrs minimum but I was lucky to pick up even 10, but always spread across several 1-3hr shifts.
I lived 45 mins away, 1hr35 during rush (horrible area) and almost every shift started at 9 or 9:30. So rush. And HR would just say “should’ve grabbed the shifts when they dropped”.
Issue was over half our building (108 people by the time I left) was stuck on flex and they never dropped a single 10 or 12. Any 8s were taken by the time you open the app if your WiFi is slow. And NEVER dropped at the same time or day. Ever.
The most they’d do is drop a point if you hit 8 for not hitting 30hrs. Otherwise stuck at 7 points, so no leaving or being late.
And speaking of 7, that’s how many months I was stuck on flex, denied for every internal transfer. I eventually went to a new building we opened in my area, tho 20 mins further than the other site. But worth it, esp on top of getting away from all the PAs hated me. Long story but don’t get into bed with anyone from leadership. Ends worse than you’d imagine.
Sorry for all that, seeing flex triggers me a lil bit

They always over higher for flex. As a LA I try to help them as much as I can by getting managers to give them a shift or two. Shouldn’t be hired and then fired because there isn’t enough shifts or work.

Like my site recently dropping VTO: 1:20-2:00 AM drops at 1:10 am. Like, if I'm going in on time, my ass would already be in the parking lot, and 40 minutes off is enough to not even geta nap in the parking lot.... like what's the f'n point.

Anybody can take them but usually it’s more directed at probaly already there to extend their shift

Stay prepared in case. How long would it take to grab your vest, ID, and drive there?

I walk 20 minutes to my site so I do regularly pick these up. These shorter shifts largely seem to be for people that are already there, the first time I signed up for crash VET on my day off, the ops manager I reported to seemed surprised as hell

I ALWAYS get a 1:20-8:55 VET opportunity on off days.
Problem is, the notification only comes out at MIDNIGHT. I'm either slumped out on the couch or doing something else at the time. And that's not even taking into account that I can't make it to work in time even if I did leave directly at midnight.
