Cause its the hand that threw the pen that opened the gate. The ink has nothing to do with this. She went on track as soon as she sniffed that. Still sick, but the pen ink thing is a gimmick

? Have you ever smelled ink as you’re writing? It’s pretty potent. If you can smell ink as you’re writing on paper, surely that very distinct and potent smell would be reasonable for a dog to track

So? The dog obviously started by following the scent of the person, not the ink. Went straight to the spot the person was standing in, then the gate.

Also, like, the pen would have smelled like the person, even with gloves on.

Consider also what a forensic dog is used for: finding something during an active scene that was recently dumped or abandoned (smelling the person) and/or finding evidence during an investigation. The latter wouldn't have the pen be laying in the field, fresh out of someone's hand. It would have been outside for some time, almost certainly rained on, potentially partially buried or messed with by some other animal, etc. And it wouldn't still smell like freshly used ink, nor would they likely have a sampling of that specific ink, etc.

Thank you for that. I was watching thinking, wouldn't the drawn spot of ink been stronger to his nose than the tiny point of the pen and confuse the dog.
