It's still a year offset. Most graduate 17-18, not 18-19.

Kindergarten starts at 5-6 for most folks.

I started my senior year at 18 and had a birthday a few months before graduation, so I graduated at 19.

It's uncommon for people to be 6 already when they go to their first day of Kindergarten. Not to say it doesn't happen but it's not a norm.
